C Patterson, formerly of this city, came up from his Portland home the last of the week and expects to remain here for a time. He is a competent automobile mechanic. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. H. Latourell returned home from Portland and Gresham on Monday. They spent the- past week visiting at the old home, and report that the weather was quite cold and disagreeable dur ing the most of the time they were away from Heppner. Jim Carry was up from his big stock ranch in Juniper canyon the first of the week. He states that he has plenty of feed yet for all his stock but is doubtful if he will have should the present spell of weather last for a few months longer. It has required much feeding out his way, cwing to the prolonged spell of bad weather, and for one, Mr. Catty would welcome a let up. Distict Attorney S. E. Notson re turned home Sunday after having spent a few days in Portland during the past week attending a meeting of the district attorneys of the state. The officers had been called to meet by Attorney General Van Winkle to discuss the various problems facing them in the enforcement of the pro hibition laws and Mr. Notson feels that much help was gained by the getting together of these officials from all over the state.
