Farmers and gardeners con trol them by spraying their plants with bordeaux, 4-4-on, and then spread ing chopped leaves of lettuce or other green eaten by slugs, poisoned with one sixteenth as much calcium arse nate. Keith ley, forest ranper, airive'l here laat night after doing road work with a group of nine forentera above Bingham Springs. The men, unrlf-r the! direction of J. C. Kuhns, supervisor of the Umatilla forest, have been nutting a road out of the Hide of the bluff. The work, Mr. Kelthley says, in extremely! difficult and only about 100 yards has been built. The intention of the forest service is to make the road a part of that to the summit. The average Oregon cow produced about ;jrl pounds of milk carrying 18 pounds of fat, in October. The 4036 cows in testing associations averaged 417 pounds of milk with 2,i pounds fat. John McCartan and Harney Devlin, Karnela sheepherdurs, were sent checks for $."00 each yesterday afternoon by the county commissioners as their sHare of the reward for capturing Irvln Le Iloy Stoop and Floyd Henderson, jail breakers now under sentence of life Imprisonment in the Oregon prison. The sheep men took the two escapes without assistance on the .Saturday following the jail break and were un opposed for the $r,00 reward placed by the county for the capture of each.
