The county court of Morrow County
culls attention of the public to the fact
that at Its September meeting, in com
pliance with the wishes of a represen
tative number of road districts within
the county, assembled In the court room
at ttiat time and for that purpose, did
redlstrict the county In order to make
the road districts smaller and more
suitable to the residents of the var
ious districts.
A number of the districts are pe
titioning the court to call a spectat
road meeting In the district In order
that the people of the district may talk
over the matter of the road situation
of the district and vote on a special
road tax for the improvement of spec
ial places in the district that may es
pecially reoui.e It
The present regular district money,
which 1 a iVi mill tax, the same as It
was before, the war, Is insufficient to
take care of the district needs and a
mall special tax appears to be the best
solution of the problem. Blanks for
the petition may be had by applying to
the county roadmaster or the county
clerk. Such petition the law requires,
shall be signed by three or mora free
holders of the district and presented
to the county court not later man Its
November meeting.

! HEPPNER ELKS VISIT CONDON.
' A party o members of the Heppner
Lodge of Elks came over in cars Wed
. neBday night and spent yesterday here,
raising funds for the new Elks build
ing. The building has been completed
at an approximate cost of $43,000, with
i another 110.000 for furnishings, but the
. bonds of the building are not all sold.
These bonds draw Interest at the rate
i of six per cent and It Is probable that
1 the lodge members will take them all

Trials to determine whether Oregon
grown cabbage seed stands up well tn
competition with seed grown by New
Tork and Danish growers, are being
conducted at Oregon City and Oswego.
The seed was distributed by A. O. Bou
quet, head of vegetable gardening at
O. A. C, who will make the tests for
solidity, uniformity and site of head.
