Babe Monague, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. L. Montague ot Arling ton were business callers In Cecil on Tuesday, Erik Waldow of Troutdale arrived In Cecil on Sunday, where he will spend a few weeks at the Willow Creek ranch before returning home. Miss Violet Hynd of Butterby Flats, also Miss Bernice Franklin of the Lookout were the guests of Miss Mildred Henriksen of Rhea on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Farnsworth of Rhea spent Thursday and Friday visiting In Heppner. They are now In camp In the mountains and gath ering huckleberries. Jack Hynd departed for Trout Creek, Mont., on Tuesday where he Is summering a band of sheep. Be fore returning home he expects to make a shipment of his Bheep to Chi cago. To train the debating teams in their annual platform tussels with the universities of Oregon and Wash ington and the Washington State Col lege, C. B. Mitchell, of the Michigan Agricultural college, has been ap pointed to organize and head the de partment ot public speaking and dra matics at O. A. C. A Sore Point. In a case tried in the South the judge very sternly demanded of the defendant: "Why did you strike this man?" "Your Honor," was the reply, "he called me a liar." "Is that true?" asked the judge, turning to the man with the battered countenance. "Certainly, it's true, your Honor," said the accuser. "I called him a liar because he Is one, and I can prove It." Then the judge turned to the de fendant with, "What have you to say to that?" - "I don't think it has anything to do with the case, your Honor.
