Becket, Eight Mil farmers, were In the city Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Rhea were Sat urday visitors here from their farm home on Rhea creek. Waldo Vincent, Lena postmaster and merchant, was a Saturday busi ness (alier In Heppner. W. 0. Hill, cashier of the Lexing ton State Bank, was a Tuesday morn ing caller In Heppner. Chas. H. Latourell, local auto dealer, went to Portland on a brief business trip Wednesday. A baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Farley near this city on Sunday, July 18. John B. Calmus, local blacksmith, left on Tuesday afternoon for a few days' outing In the mountains. Mrs. Ed Hunt of Rhea creek (was a Heppner visitor on Tuesday, ac companied by Mrs. Earl Hunt. Perry Hughes and family of little Butter creek returned Sunday from a vacation outing at Hitter Springs. Ed Buckman, local contractor, la placing a concrete basement under the W. H. Cronk residence on Galo treat. Ray Rogers, popular salesman at Minor Co., is taking a vacation and enjoying the sea breeze at Rocksway beach. Miss Ruby Corrigall and Miss Odile GroBhens left on Sunday for Portland and the coast to spend a vacation ot two weeks. Mrs. Melissa A. Clark returned last week from Portland, where she made a visit with her daughter, Mrs, Levi Morgan. The family of B. F. Sorenson Is en Joying an outing In the mountains, having established a camp on upper Willow creek. George R. W Mead of Black Horse was In the city on Tuesday. He is get ting ready for harvest and was here after supplies. Andy Rood was in from the ranch Tuesday, getting ready to commence harvest. He will have a run of about forty-five days. Guy French, prominent stockman of Eastern Oregon, was visiting In Heppner and transacting business the first of the week. Miss Harriett Case arrived Satur day from her home in Juneau, Alaska and is visiting with her brothers, M. L. and F. A. Case. George M. Schempp is erecting a new dwelling on one of his lots in north Heppner. Herbert Driskell Is doing the carpenter work. Mrs. Chester Darbee and daughter Miss Gwendolyn left on Sunday tor Tacoma, where they will make an ex tended visit with relatives. Miss Ruth Elliot has returned to her home In Portland after visiting for two Iweeks at the home of her aunt, Mrs. C. C. Patterson. J. W. Becket, former Morrow coun ty cltiien, Is up from his Portland home on a visit to his sons, Walter and Charles at Eight Mile. Robert Alstott commenced head ing on his Eight Mile ranch the last of the week. He was In Heppner Friday looking for harvest help. Earl Gordon returned last Satur day from Portland, where he spent a week, and has resumed his duties at Patterson & Son's drug store. Carl Bergstrom, Gooseberry farm er. Is said to have one field of wheat which experts say will make a yield of close to fifty bushels per acre. Ray Pierce, head painter on thi new hotel building, sustained an un pleasant Injury recently, twhen he picked up a sliver In his right hand. Chas. Barlow has been confined te his home the last week, suffering from an attack of tonsllitls. His condition Is somewhat Improved at this time. F. A. McMenamln returned Thurs day from Salem, where he made a brief attendance upon the state con vention of Elks, which was in session there last week. Mrs. 0. K. Porter and daughter Helen rpent a fefw days here the past week on a visit to Mrs. Porter's sis ter, Mrs. R. K. Crego. Their home is in The Dalles. Mrs. Ray Pierce and children have gone to Goldendale, Washington, where they will visit with Mrs. Pierce's parents until Mr. Pierce gets located In Corvallls. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brantley left Saturday for their home in Pendle ton after spending several months in Heppner. Mr, Brantley was super Intendent of construction for Gelst Brothers and looked after the ditch s Iwork on the new gravity water sys tem. A large number of friends ot the late Til Taylor went from here to Pendleton last Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mr. Taylor. E. M. Shutt, former sheriff of Morrow county took several county officials In his car. The members of the Shutt party were S. E, Notson, district attorney; George McDulfee, Bherlff; J. A, Wa ters, county clerk, and county Judge. W. T. Campbell. He succeeds Chester G. Austin, who has been transferred to Condon. Adam Blahm has placed his order with Martin Reid for lumber with which to build a new bouse on his creek ranch below tdwn. Mr. Blahm expects to have a thoroughly modern residence, which will replace the one destroyed by fire some time ago. Claude White of Lexington has also ordered a bill ot lumber from Mr. Reid for a new bouse on his property at Lexington. Mr. White Is a well known farmer ot the Lexington coun-J try.
