Notson, local attorney, was called to Portland on legal business Wednesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Clark were in the city Wednesday from their farm home east of Lexington. Gus Hale left the last of the week for Spokane, where he will visit with relatives for several weeks. E. H. Turner, prominent lone far mer was in Heppner on a business call on Wednesday afternoon. Some people have spent every sum mer for thirty years at LEHMAN HOT SPRINGS. It must be a good place. Ed Buckman left the first of the week for Portland, accompanied by his son Elmer. They will spend the week in the metropolis. The annual school election of dis trict No. 1 on Monday afternoon, was a quiet affair. W. P. Mahoney was elected director to succeed W. B. Barratt and Vaw ter Craw ford was re elected clerk. George C. Aiken is "fezing" with Shriners in Portland this week. Henry Happold went to Arlington Tuesdav to meet Mr. and Mrs In Hill, who returned from a two weeks' visit in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Barratt aro among Heppner people attending the Shriners convention in the Rose City this week. While in Portland Mr. and Mrs. Barratt are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Hynd. The W. R. Mwins left last Satur day for their summer c ottage at Rockaway, one of the popular beach resorts of the Oregon coast. They were accompanied as far as Pnrtlan.1 by M. D. Clark and little daughter Marjorie. Mr. and Mrs. Loney motored over from Walla Walla and are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cy pert and Mrs. Loney's sisters, Mrs. F. E. Parker and Mrs. A. E. Hall. They expect to remain until the last of the week. Mrs. Lowden returned to her home at Yakima, Wash., last Sunday after visiting for several days at the home cf her sister. Mrs. Robert A. Thomp son in Heppner. She was accom panied heme by her niece. Miss Reita Neel, who will visit In Yakima for several weeks. Olden returned Friday from a trip which took him into Southern California and Aritona. Mrs. Olden, who accompanied him south, remained over at Beaverton, Ore., for a visit with relatives. Cal ifonia raised big crops this year in both grain and fruit, says Mr. Olden. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. McMenamin went to Portland last Monday, where Mr. McMenamin was called to preside over a meeting of the Knights of Col umbus, at which national lecturer Dr. James J. Walsh (was a guest of honor. Mr. and Mrs. McMenamin were accompanied by Mrs. B. F. Butler. state highways.
