The Shevliu-Hixou and Brooks-Si'unlon Lumber Com panies, the two largest industries of this city, will help solve the housing problem by furnishing lumber to their employes and residents of this city for home building purposes at a price less than that received for their product f. o. b. cars at their own mills. The lumber companies will also finance the building of homes and let employes pay for them by de ducting a small sum from each month's wage3. The plan has just been placed in effect and lumber is ndw being delt out under these con ditions. The 1920 payroll for these two mills alone will be close to $3,000, 000, and with their present holdings of timber in this region the mills can operate at this capacity for 30 ears. BASEBALL'S GAMEST Pendleton, Ore. The week from June 14 to 19 lias been set aside by merchants and manufacturers for a campaign to increase the consump tion of Oregon-made products. Made-in-Oregon goods from all parts of the state are to be displayed in store, win- ows and cash prizes will be aHvarded for the best exhibits. Marshfleld, Ore. A new market for Port Orford cedar has developed in the far east, where the resource ful Japanese manufacturers convert it into pencils. The timber in eight foot bolts is moving out of here in considerable quantities by rail and water, destined for Japan. Babe Ruth, home-run slugger with the New York Yankees, has proved his greatness by bis game ness. Sold for the record price of $120,000 to the Yanks, Ruth got away to a poor start and was "panned" to the limit. De spite this he kept on trying. The Waldport Oil Com pany operated extensively at Wald port, Oregon, and of late lias been active in Wyoming. Lebanon, Ore. An unusual har vest for a farm will be that reaped by H. F. Davidson of Hood River, who owns a large ranch near here. He is going to install a sawmill of 20, 000 feet daily capacity on his farm to harvest his fir trees. McMinnville, Ore. Seed Is being furnished to growers at cost by the A. Rupert Co., Inc., which Is build ing a new fruit cannery here.
