W. P. Mahoney, cashier of the First National Hank, made a brief business trip to Portland the last of the week. County clerk, J. A. Waters left last week for Hot Luke, where he Is tak ing a course of treatments In order to effect a cure for rheumatism. Itummell & Wooten have opened up a paint and wall paper store In the Heppner estate building, which was formerly occupied by Cilllum & llisbee. Considerable Improvement work Is being done on Baltimore street this Iweek under the supervision of Carl Brantley of Geist Brothers Con struction Co. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Feldman of lone were visitors In Heppner on Wednesday. Mr. Feldman, who Is a farmer of that vicinity, reports crops in his neighborhood looking fine. Ralph Bengo, former Morrow county farmer, is In the city tills week from Salem, on business. Mr. Ilenge has about decided to rmiKi his permanent home in Heppner. C. E. Jones, former Eight Mile farmer, and manufacturer of the cel ebrated Jones Weeder. Is up from his Ndwberg home to spend several days looking after business interests. Mr. and Mrs. George Evuiib drove to Portland Tuesday, where they will spend several days. They expect to bring a new car home with them. Leo Hill, lorul garage man, accompanied them on the trip. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hhea of Ithea creek were Friday visitors in Hepp ner, coming In to vote. They were accompanied by Mr. It lien's father, C. A. Hhea of Portland, who (will spend the summer In Morrow county. Dr. W. L. Calloway of Mountain Home, Idaho, who has been spending several days in Heppner, left for home on Tuesday, driving over in his car. He was accompanied us far us Pendleton by Lloyd Fell of thiB city. Mrs. M. S. Corrlgull of Butter creek attended the Baccalaureate service for the graduating class of Heppner high school in this city. Her daughter, Miss Violette is among those hvho will receive a diploma next Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Yocnm of Was co spent Sunday and Monday in Heppner, visiting at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Henry Happold. They returned to Wasco Tuesday, ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. Everett Doiwning of this city. George W. Milholland returned on Monday from a four days trip into Grant county, where he visited the towns of Monument, Hamilton, Lous Creek, Canyon and Prairie, and en Joyed a short stay at the Mt. Vernon springs. Conditions in Grant count are good, says Mr. Milholland. Miss Bernlce Dafoe, music instruc to in the local schools, will leave tomorrow for her home in North Da kota. She hud planned to see Port land and other western Oregon toiwns but Is hurrying home at this time to attend the wedding of a sister. She expects to return to Ilcppnor to resume her position In the full. A number of local Masons went to Pendleton last Friday to take the Commundery degree. Those making the trip were. David Hynd, H. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hemrick and Miss Nellie Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mm N. A. Clark, loft on Wed nesday morning for Newton, 111., Mr. and Mrs. Hemrick to visit with rela tives there for a month before return ing home. Miss Clark will remain in Netwton through the summer, re turning early In the fall for the open ing of school here. Sanford Clark of this city received three broken ribs and a cracked col lar bone as a result of being thrown from a flldw two weeks ago at the Wlghtninn Bros, ranch, below town.
