Mr. Cum mins now mnkes his home in Hood Illver. Enrl W. Gordon expects to leave on Saturday for Pendleton where jie has urcepted a position with the Thomp son Drug Company. For the past year, since his graduation from the Nortli Pacific School of Pharmacy, he has been In the employ of Patterson & Son, local druggists. Sheriff Oeorge McDuffee returned Tuesday evening from Salem where he took W, II. Hayes to the Oregon stute penitentiary, who was recently sentenced by Judge Phelps to serve an Indeterminate period of from one to five years. Hayes plead guilty to a charge of rape. Mike Curran and Leonard Barr are getting the new fixtures arranged in their billiard and pool hall in the Elks building and will be open to the public In a short time. They will have four pocket billiard tables and one carom billiard table. In addi tion, Messrs. Curran and Barr will serve all kinds of soft drinks and will handle cigars, tobacco and candy. Mrs. Bertha Drew Gilman left this morning for Portland where she goes to confer with her department of the Nutlonal Americanization Committee of the Woman's Relief Corps. From there she Iwlll go on to Astoria to at tend the Department Convention of the W. R. C. which will bo held June 8-11. Later In the summer she ex pects to go east to vtolt at her old home and also attend the national convention of the G. A. R. and W. R. C. James Sheridan has recovered his Ford car. The machine stolen from the John Kilkenny ranch In Sand Hollow several days agp was found In a blind street at the rear of the C. A. Minor residence In this city on Monday by deputy sheriff Chld sey. The car was found to be un harmed, and it was evident that it had been driven until the gas iwas all used up, as the tank was absolutely dry. The car wbb at once returned to Mr. Shorldan and It goes without saying that he was glad to get It back. Harvle Young of Eight Mile spent ' Wednesday here on business. Mr. Young recently sold his ranch to a I Sherman county mau, but is contin uing on the place until fall. He has taken his former offices In the I. 0. O. F. building, un til recently occupied by Dr. Harold C. Bean. R. veterans are request ed to gather promptly at 11 o'clock on Sunday, May 23, at the Christian church, where memorial services will be held. In past years the Grand Army men have met at some outside point and then marched in a body to the church, but the numbers are growing fewer each year, bo it was decided to dispense with the former custom.
