The Victory Liberty Loan is here, It is the best bargain of all of America's stupendous war security wsues. mat financiers and econ omists agree upon. It is also ; the last of the Liberty Loans. The loan is for $4,500,000,000 supported by notes carrying : 4 percent Interest and liberal tax ex emption features. These are con- vertame into notes bearing 3 per cent interest virtually free of taxa tion. The first will be more valuable to the'poor man. The rich man will buy the second. Both series mature in 1923 but the Government has the privilege of calling them in, In 1922 The early maturity of these notes makes them a prized Investment In order to get wide distribution of the Victory Loan among the rank and fib of Americans in order to get thcs.o notes Into tho humblest homes of America, the Government will sell them on time. Tho man who buys a Victory Note will have six months to pay for it. In other words the Government does not want the banks to take the Loan even if the banks could. Six months to pay! Think of the years these boys of ours who have come back without legs or arms or eyes, are going to pay. Is there a man among us who calls himself an American who cannot take his share 'of this Loan under these terms? Can I that man face these armless and legless fellows and toll them why he is not taking his share? . i If the war has done one thing for this community is has made it American, heart and soul. It going to stay American. x The test of that Americanism it's record in the Victory Loan. Men and Women! This Is the last Liberty Loan. Let's stand shoulder to , shoulder Americans all and finish this war job that those who died shall not have died In vain. is is FOR 8ALE shoats and 11 McCLINTOCK. -16 head last spring winter pjgs. W. How often as the dusk drew near And vagrant breezes stirred the pool, We've paused beside the path to hear The evening carol of the inuie. A simple and unstudied strain, As from a heart thit overflowed, It rose and fell and rose again, And died in echoes down the road. But science with Its ruthless knife. These vibrant cords has learned to sever; That song that spoke the Joy of life In zigzag bars is stilled forever. A kindly and impulsive brute In silence must pursue his ways, The song upon his lips is mute. And all his days are brayless days. Now, science may be right of course, Perhaps the mule Is no musician, And merely brayed til he was hoarse To gratify a false ambition. Perhaps the Muses passed him by, Caruso '8 genius may have 'missed him; And yet it's sad that he must die With all that music In his system! James J. Montague, in New York American.
