Let us all work together as never before, in the true spirit of American patriotism to the end that a speedy r ial lasting peace be brought to a democratized World. That the year of 1918 may be frought with blessings to the people of our country, at home or abroad, and that our men in uniform will all be returned safely to us at no far distant date, is our wish and our prayer. The past year has been one of prosperity for the people of Morrow county and seemingly the horrors of war have not in vaded this peaceful territory. We should be truly thankful. What the new year holds forth for us we cannot say. But with a firm and steadfast resolution we can meet the future with the same spirit that dominated our forefathers when they also bat tled for those same principles of liberty. Let us all make sacrifices during the year 1918, thereby giving every possible bit of strength to our young manhood of the nation who are making such sacrifices for us. Let us stand bv the President of this United States and uphold the adminis tration in this critical period. And, above all,-let us keep ever before us the thought that we are all Americans and as such we must stand ever ready to do the bidding when duty calls. The principles for which we are fighting alone make life worth liv ing, and it must indeed be disheartening to the King of Prussia to know that the American people are into the struggle to the last mm to maintain these principles. THE BOY SCOUTS AND THE LIBERTY LOAN. The report of the work of the Boy Scouts of America in the Second Liberty Loan drive made public recently shows that they .were directly responsible for the sale of $101,133,G00 in bonds. This means that they produced about 5 per cent of the to tal subscriptions to the loan, and the number they sold show CMJ1CI ISHES you all a Happy New Year. Our services next Sunday will center around the thought of the closing and opening year. Where are the years in their flight taking us? What are we getting out of them in permanent values? ' That is, in character for other values we must leave behind in the end. What are we putting into them that is, of good will and good deeds? Begin the new year right by a purpose to turn away from care and pleasures at least one day in the week and to join your neigh bors in public worship. Red Cross, Y. M. C. A., and modern democra cy all have their birth and inspir ation in the christian church. The same is true of many other good institutions. You are enjoying the benefits of the Influences which God is sending into the world and the community through His peo ple; are you encouraging tin; churches by attending their ser vices? Come out to the church of your preference next Sunday and so do your share toward making them strong for righteousness in the community and in the nation.
