'Addressed to the people of Oregon the State Board of Health has Issued an appeal for support of the Red Cross Christmas Seal sale. The pro ceeds are to be used in aid of men rejected for military service because of tuberculosis, in Oregon. The sale will be conducted by the Oregon As sociation for the Prevention of Tuber culosis.' The appeal of the State Boarad of Health reads as follows: To the People of Oregon: War gives new importance to the work of the Oregon Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis. Numbers of men who apply for en listment are rejected because of tu berculosis. Others contract the dis ease in service and must be returned to their homes. In either instance these men must bo cared for. Any other course would be inhumane. I It would be uneconomic. The Oregon State Board of Health desires most earnestly to commend the Oregon As sociation for the Prevention ofTuber culosls to the support of the people of Oregon In performing this service. The association is admirably equip ped. In co-operation with the State Board of Health nanipf) and addresses of men rejected for military service because of tuberculosis will be secu red. Each will bo followed to his home. Nurses especially trained in Public Health work will give him and and bis family instructions to aid in preventing the spread of infection and to add to. his chance of overcom ing the disease. Where necessary, sanatarium care will be- arranged ; supplies and suitable food will be fur nished. This work can only be done if the Red Cross Christmas Seal sale conducted by the association is a suc cess and adequate funds to meet nec essary expense are secured. Such a necessity was not anticipated by the last legislature and the state has nd appropriation for the purpose. The total amount needed is f 10,000.00 This will necessitate the sale of !, 000,000 seals at one cent each. Let the generous people of this state buy liberally and every penny will do dou ble duty 'n caving life and preventing the destructive spread in Oregon of this dread -disease.
