War's Demand For Men With Scien
tific Training Will Steadily Increase.
Secretary of War Newton D. Ba
ker urges men in scientific institu
tions to continue their training.
"The Government service will de
mand more and more scientifically
trained men," said he, "and I hope
those who are in charge .of scientific
Institutions will impress upon the
young men the Importance of contin
uing their studies, except to the ex
tent that they are necessarily inter
rupted by a mandatory call under the
provisions of the selective-service
law."
Every effort will be made to use
each student's special training in con
nection with specialized occupations
in the Army, to afford technical stu
dents liable to call as great an. op

mits for Importation of
Tickcy Cattle.
To Increase the meat supply of the
country bars have been lowered for
the importation of cattle from the
tick-infested Central and South
American countries.
Such animals must be slaughtered
immediately at ports of entry. For
the protection of domestic cattle and
to make sure that only wholesome
meat shall be produced from this
source, regulations governing the im
portations are very strict.
A permit from the Secretary of Ag
riculture is required for each con
signment of cattle offered for importation.
