The annual Thanksgiving appeal made by The Boys' and Girls' Aid So ciety of Oregon to the school children and citizens of the state has always met with enthusiastic response from teachers, pupils and friends through out Oregon. It is to be hoped that a similar appeal for food supplies and money will not go unheeded In spite of the many difficulties and econo mies which the war incurs. The Society Is practicing every legitimate economy, but with its re ceiving home full to capacity, to say nothing of a waiting list, and with the price of milk three times what it was last spring, with a constantly de creasing income, The Boys' and Girls' Aid Society cannot function to the best of its ability without the sup port of Its friends In the schools and of the public In general. The Society Is asking for 815,000 as well as donations of canned fruit and vegetables. Such supplies will be shipped free of charge by the rail road companies to the organization until December 31st. Red Cross War Fund Past Due. In the Red Cross campaign In June Morrow county subscribed to the Red Cross War Fund $15,629.33. This was a fine tribute and indication of our patriotism. The acid test, how ever, is not what we say we will do but what we actually do, and It ap pears that there are a number of un paid subscriptions in the county of Morrow. All of the subscriptions to this fund were supposed to have been paid on or before the 1st of October. The State Campaign Chairman, Mr. Henry L. Corbett, of Portland, in forms us that the National office in Washington is "pounding me on the back every week for more funds and I am becoming embarrassed because so much money Is still uncollected out In the counties." All pledges which were due on or before October 1st should be paid at this time to the County Treasurer. Percy Jarmon, leading farmer of the Butter creek section, was doing business in Heppner Friday last.
