He Didn't Do It. The Gazette-Times literally moved C. E. Jones and his good family to Walla Walla a short time ago. Physically speaking, we didn't get Mir. Jones out of town at all.' In other words the Gazette-Times was in error two weeks ago when it men tioned that Mr. Jones had sold his residence property here and was go ing to Walla Walla. The move did not materialize and the statement was made without foundation in fact. To correct the Idea among the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Jones as tn their going away, we make this state ment with an added apology jtor the mistatement of facts. Our reDorter had the wrong ear to the news wire. Takes Charge of Bakery. George Hendry turned the Heppner Bakery over to A. W. Raglan and Mr. Coffey, the new owners the first of the month. The new owners had been with the establishment the past month and promise to continue the same excellent service to bakery patrons as was given by Mr. and Mrs, Hendry. Mr. Hendry and wife have not decided what they will do in the future, but will take a short vaca tion, going to North Yakima to visit with relatives. John McEntire, well known Hinton creek farmer and sheepman, has sold 1000 head of lambs to Louis Groshen of this city for $10.30 per head. Mr. Groshen is getting back into the sheep business again, after a short vacation. J. B. Sperry.i an early pioneer of this section, was a visitor in Heppner a short time last week and called on a number of his old-time friends. He has been visiting with his relatves at lone during the past ten days and ac companied his nephew, C. B. Sperry to Heppner. It has been many years since Mr. Sperry left Heppner, he ihavlnf departed from here in 1898. For a number of years he was engag ed in the sheep industry in Wyoming and has been up against some of the real experiences in life as handed out to a resident of that part of the uni verse. Having disposed of his In terests there some little while ago, Mr. Sperry is now enjoying a rest from hard work and putting in the time visiting with his relatves in var ious parts of the Coast country. He noted with much pleasure the great improvement made in Heppner since he left here. S. E. Notson was called to Portland Sunday to attend a meeting of the State Council of Defense, which was held in that city on Monday. Food conservation is the crying need of the hour and the State Defense Council is making preparations to carry the work into the schools of the state. Lawrence Redding, Eight Mile farmer, was in the city Saturday to receive six head of fine mules he had purchased from M. J. Devin of Sand Hollow. Mr. Redding recently suf fered the loss of several of his mules when his barn was destroyed by fire. J. W. Creath, one of the directors of the Farmers & Stockgrowers Nat ional Bank, was in the city the last of the week from Portland to receive some sheep which he had recently purchased here. Hugh E.
