Atkinson ot the lo cal high school faculty, left last week lor Idaho where he has accepted a position with an irrigataion com pany. He will become permanently located there. Mrs. Clara Eson, State Superin tendent of Bible Schools of the Chris tian church in Oregon, was a visitor In Heppner the first of the week and held a conference with the Sunday School workers ot the local church last evening. She will also visit the schools at Lexington and lone. Nela H. Justus, prominent east end sheepman, received a new Willys-Knight touring car Saturday from Minor 4 Co., the local agency. This Is the first one of these cars to be brought Into the county. Minor & Co. have sold a number of Overlands during the past two weeks. J. C. Williams and wife ot Nolan, accompanied by Mary E. Price and son, Ernest Price, of Pilot Rock, vis ited the fore part ot the week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lleual len on Rhea creek. Mr. Williams Is a brother-in-law of Mr. Lieuallen, and one ot the large farmers of the West end of Umatilla. Waldo Vincent was down from Lena Tuesday, getting acquainted with his new son, George, as well as looking after some business matters. Conditions arp rather backward In his section and it is very wet, mak ing it hard to get in the crops. Things are beginning to improve, however, and Mr. Vincent looks for ward to a prosperous season and fine crops in the Lena country. BOARDMAN. Miss Clara Voyen and Mrs. C. BL Voyen were Hermiston visitors over Sunday. Rev. Blackman of Milton was with us for morning and evening services last Sunday. L..H. Carpenter ot Cedar Point, Kan., filed on a homestead Monaay and is preparing to build a house and make his home there this summer. Plans have been started for the erection of a community cnurcn. Quite a sum In cash, material and labor has been raised. Next Sunday Mr. Blackman will try to be with us to discuss the plans more fully. Let everyone Interested come. Bandar School Will Picnic The second anual picnic of the Fed erated Sunday school will be held in the Fair Grounds Saturday, May 26. Every member of the Sunday school is expected to attend. Lunch at noon. Bring your lunch basket. A. M. Phelps. Supt A regiment of men for immediate service in France will be organized by the Forest Service under the di rection of the War Department. This regiment Is planned to assist in for est work in France, and will also conduct logging and milling opera tions. Portable mills probably will be used as they can be quickly taken from place to place as need develops or as supply of logs requires. The regiment will be comprised of for esters, logging engineers, experienced woodsmen, loggers, and men of sim ilar experience and training. This body of men will form a unit of the Engineer's Corps of which the rail road workers are a part.
