Mrs. Kay Blake, who has been vis.

J. H. Wilt, returned to her home at
Portland last Sunday. She was ao
companled as far as Arlington by
her parents. "
Mrs. Alice Cochran and her son
Walter, also Mrs. C. B. Soerry'and
son Harley were passengers to Port
land last week, the mothers goine
down with their sons. The boys took
the examination for entrance into the
navy. We understand that both of
them passed and will . enter upon
their new duties before very long.
The heavy rain storm we had the
latter part of last week caused con
siderable damage in some localities.

Anderson lost eighty sacks of cement
and a bunch of shingles which he

house. Aaron Peterson's wind mill

washed out of existence. We guess
Leonard Carlson must have been a
lucky man as two days prior to the
big rain he moved his meat, about
two hundred pounds, from the smoke
house to the cellar. The smoke house
was washed away. Mr. Carlson says
the water must have been the highest
it ever was in that locality for the
smoke house had stood there for 25
years and the water had never got
anywhere near it before. We heard
someone lost an automobile but we
do not know whether this account is
correct or not.
Jack Parker, a man who has
caused some trouble in the past on
account of his crazy actions, was shot
In the shoulder about two o'clock
this morning by Mrs. Mollie Reid
after Parker had attempted to break
into Mrs. Raid's rooming house.
Parker is now in the hospital
where he is receiving medical atten
tion. Several months ago Parker was
judged as to his sanity after he had
been taken in by officers for throw
ing rocks as people. He was turned
loose and advised to leave town. He
did this, and only recently returned.
Drs. Wlnnard and Gaunt perform
ed a very successful operation on Jim
Coleman of Lone Rock recently when
they made an incision in his stomach
and thereby diverted the entrance of
food into that organ. It was a deli
cate operation but Mr. Coleman has
now left the hospital, has a normal
appetite and he says his stomach is
doing better than it ever did. Great
is the science of modern surgery.
Clark Wright of the, Lexington
country was operated on at the Hepp
ner Sanatorium this week for appen
dicitis. Drs. Wlnnard and Chick oer-
formed 'the operation.
