Mr. Robbing is now engaged in the Belling of automobiles in Pendleton. Don't forget the dance in Cecil Hall May 19th. Willie O'Sullivan of Stanfield was in Cecil Friday. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Nash returned from Pendleton last Thursday. C. A. Minor shipped a car of beef cattle to Portland last Friday. Elza Walalce was transacting bus iness in Heppner last Saturday. Ellis Minor was the loser of a val uable horse last week by drowning. Miss Mary Van Schoich is visiting with her cousin, Mrs. Bennett, of Cecil. C. A. Minor and Mrs. Beunett made a Cadillac trip to Arlington last Thursday. Messrs. Jack Hynd and Alph Shaw were in Portland last week transact ing business. James Mcintosh, a former Cecilite, visited at the Jack Hynd ranch for a tew days last week. Mrs. E. J. Logan of Portland was visiting at the home of J. W. Os borne the past week. . George Anderson conveyed a full load of young people Sunday to the 'scene of the wreck near Morgan. George Anderson made a trip to Willows last Friday for the purpose of returning the shearing plant. A large crowd of people from here visited the scene of the wreck above Morgan both Saturday and Sunday. Grover Curtis, who has been suf fering from a broken leg, is able to be home again, although his locomo tion is not any too well. - Gayland Faulkner, a former old timer, turned up last Thursday at the Franklin ranch where he is doing farm service as in times past. The shearers have at last reached the Ellis Minor sheep. The work of relieving the sheep of their warm coats commenced last Saturday. Fred Marshall of Estacada came down Friday evening from Morgan with his adjutants, Olaf Johnson and J. H. Miller who work in the Morgan warehouse. James Perkins, who left here some weeks ago for the ' benefit of his health, was advised by Portland phy sicians to take a sea voyage to San Francisco. He has now returned to Cecil and reports that his health has been greatly improved by the voyage. A huge caterpillar engine has been engaged to turn over seven inch soil on the Curtis place. It hauls two fifteen-foot packers. G. H. Miller, who resides near by, has been trying to chase down the huge monster with a harrow but is still in the rear. The place is being put into barley. The fall and spring grain Is looking fine. Obituary. Sarah Francis Jennings was born In Kentucky in 1854. Her parents Immigrated to Missouri and In 1870 she was married to Joseph W. Os borne. They made their home there until 1890 when they came West and located near Cecil, Morrow County, Ore., which place continued to be their home until the morning of May 11, 1917. At about 6 o'clock she succumbed to a sudden attack of as thma that lasted but a few minutes. She seemed conscious that the end had come and triumphantly passed the ordeal In her 64th year. At an early age she became Iden tified with the supreme Life of Truth and Righteousness to whose inspiring principles she was ardently devoted. Her active Christian life was well known and she will be remembered and cherished by her many friends. Her devoted husband has lost a faith ful wife and the community a real neighbor. The funeral services were largely attended both at the house and at Morgan cemetery where Interment was made. She now rests from her labors and her works will follow her as she awaits the coming of her be reaved husband and the morning of the resurrection. Well may man forgo this sad scene, When his vision of glad eRrth's dream Dispels the blight of sin and pain, As foretold in God's dear name, That the waste places will soon bloom With the new life from the tomb. Leader, Melba Griffiths. H. A.' NOYES, Pastor. Gets Bad Cut on Lip. Emery Gentry was the victim of a very severe and painful accident last Saturday. Returning a horse he was riding to the barn of Henry Schwara, butcher, he struck a meat hook that had eben temporarily placed on the wall. The point of the hook chipped a corner off of one of his upper front teeth and was deflected to his lower lip, butting a deep gash through to the outside. It necessitated 13 stitches to bring the severed parts together and though the operation was verjr severe, the lad. was plucky and went through It without flinching and waived the use of an anesthetic. County school superintendent Lena Snell Shurte has received a notice from State Superintendent Churchill to all county school superintendents to the effect that after May 21 no alien who has not been admitted to full citizenship can vote at any school meeting. This was overlooked in preparing the synopsis of the new school legislation, but it is desirable to get this Information before every school district before the annual school meetings are held.
