Franklin and Jack Hynd made an - overland trip to Heppner last Saturday on matters of business. Mrs. George Doney of YamhilL Oregon, has subscribed for The Gazette- Times. , A. Z. Barnard made a hasty trip on the morning local and returned in the afternoon with his wife and child, who bad been visiting at the noise of J. H. Franklin. , Germ O-Conner and Ellis Minor were " Heppner visitors Saturday, Germ will remain there a few days before returning. Mr. and Mrs. Sam E. Van V actor of Heppner, came' down Sunday to visit with their daughter, Mrs. Ellis Minor. " ' . Gene Penland was down this week from Heppner and took off the Minor cattle for the spring and summer range. The Illness of Frank Nash, of Pen dleton, has become serious. His brother, A. E. Nash, was urged to come at once. Henry Streeter. took him to Arlington, where he took pas sage on the midnight train. The government purchased and shipped out 12 cars of wheat the first of the week to Europe for the bene fit of the Allies. Uncle Sam's men were present and assisted in the mat ter of loading the grain. A force of twelve accompanied the Turner shearing plant that was sent up the line the first of the week from the Deos place, to remove the fleecy coats from some 7000 head of sheep belonging to the Hynd and Minor ranches. . the Cecil school children enjoyed a pleasant day on Sunday at the home of Mr. Hynd. ' Full liberties of the ranch were given and a royal dinner in their own appartments, was served by Mrs. Hynd. C. A. Minor has made a number of improvements around his house, The yard has been altered and en closed with a new fence. The yard will, in the course of time, give way to a beautiful lawn. Mr. Hynd is converting his house' yard into a lawn. His son Herbert is laying the plans to raise one of the best gardens In the valley. He is also quite a successful flower raiser A successful surprise party was staged at the W. B. Ewing residence last Saturday evening. They gather ed from the valley below in great squads. Cecil managed to run down a well ladened vehicle affording conf veyance to Mrs. Bennett, Georgia her daughter, and Anna Lowe with Zennith Logan, Harold and William Ahalt, Alza Wallace, Pat MeEntire and Jim O'Connar as male attend ants. Harry and John Henderson went on horse back. One feature was the free drinks from a keg of cider brought from the cellar below. A good time was had and all bade good bye to their neighbor who had settled this valley in the pioneer days some 36 years ago. They left this week for their new home at Rose' burg. Their leaving decreases the school enrollment by four, leaving five to complete the course of instruc tion for the current year.
