ner. He is comfortably located in
the Swinburne building, next door to
the Liberty Meat Market.
Alfred Ayers got back from the
East Thanksgiving. He took in Chi-
! cago while back there and is pleased
with his trip. He says Major Ormsby
got back with his sheep in good con
dition. Alfred Is now rustling on
the ranch.
Last Wednesday Mrs. P. 0. Borg
went to Portland after a trunk be
longing to Mrs. Harry Wright. It
was shipped below by freight recent
ly and was robbed somewhere on the
road,, never reaching its destination.
Oscar Minor left on Wednesdays
train for Portland. He goes to get
Mrs. Minor, who lias been in St. Yin
cent's hospital, and has recovered so
far as to be able to return home.
The Heppner Musical and Dramat
ic Co. was organized last Tuesday
evening with a large membership.
During the winter they will present
a number of well chosen plays, com
mencing with a musicale In the near
future. Heppuer's young men are
wide-awake, and of the progressive
order. The proceeds are for the ben
efit of the band.

Over a million and a quarter board
feet of wood is used annually in the
mines of Oregon for props, lagging,
ties, and riffle boxes.
Oregon consumes 536 board feet
of lumber per capita annually.
In 1914 in the construction of
ships at the ship building yards of
Oregon and Washington, nearly 13,-
000,000 board feet of high grade
lumber and timbers were consumed.
Australian ironback contributed 35,
000 board feet to this total.
To repair the spokes, tongues and
reaches of broken wagons, the black
smiths and wheelwrights of the
towns and cities of Oregon and
Washington used over 400,000 board
feet of oak, ash, hickory, etc. The
average cost per thousand board feet
of this raw material was over one
hundred dollars.
A new process of ereosoting Doug
las fir has recently been developed
which does not impair the strengtli
of the timber.
Public Corporation Value Raised.
Word from Salem has reached
Heppner that the value of public ser
vice corporation properties has been
raised in Morrow county, over last
year's figures about $100,000. This
will make a noticeable increase in
tax money.
