The State Game Warden has com piled and issued in abbreviated form the Oregon game laws. In order that our people may be informed more fully in these matters, we publish the same herewith: A resident hunter's license is $1 and a non-resident hunter's license is $10 per year. A resident or non resident angler's license is $1.00 per year and a combined hunting and fishing license Is $2.00 per year. Hunters' and anglers', licenses may be secured from any county clerk by applying in person, or by application signed by two freeholders on regular blank which may be obtained from county clerk. Civil War veretans may obtain li censes free from the county clerks only, upon proof of service. No li cense is required to angle in salt wa ters for non-game fish, nor is a li cense necessary for women to hunt and angle. It is unlawful for aliens to hunt and angle without first having obtain ed a $25.00 gun license and both hunters' and anglers' licenses. The open hunting season for all counties east of the Cascade moun tains is as follows, the dates being in elusive: Buck deer with horns August 15 to October 31. Silver gray squirrels Season clos ed In Hood River and Wasco counties by order of the State Board of Fish and Game Commissioners. Ducks and geese October 1 to January 15. (Federal law). Rails and coots October 1 to Jan uary 15. (Federal law). Shore birds, black breasted and golden plover, Wilson or jack snipe, woodcock, and greater and lesser yel- lowlegs October 1 to December 15 (Federal law). j Chinese pheasants Open season in Union county October 1 to Octo ber 10. Closed at all times in other counties. Grouse August 15 to October 31. Prairie chickens Open season in Sherman, Union and Wasco counties October 1 to October 15. Closed at all times in other counties. Sage Hens July 15 to August 31 Quail Open season in Klamath county October 1 to October 10. Closed at all times in other counties, Doves September 1 to October 31. The bag limits for game is as fol lows: Buck deer with horns 3 during any season. Silver gray squirrels 5 in any seven consecutive days. Ducks, geese, rails, coots and shore birds 30 in any seven consecutive days. Chinese pheasants, native pheas ants and grouse 5 in one day in cluding 1 female Chinese pheasant. and 10 in any seven consecutive days including 2 female Chinese pheas ants. Prairie chickens and sage hens 5 in one day and 10 in any seven con secutive days. Quail 10 in any seven consecu tlve days. Doves 10 in one day or 20 in any seven consecutive days. The following warning is issued as it is always unlawful to kill moun tain sheep, antelope, elk, beaver, fe male deer, spotted fawn, silver pheas ants, golden pheasants, Reeves' pheasans, English partridge, Hun garian partridge, Franklin grouse, or fool hen, bob-white quail, swan, wood duck, wild turkey, least sandpiper, western sandpiper, solitary sandpi per, seml-palmated plover, snowy plover, and all other birds of any kind except those on which there is an open season. The following are not protected at any time: Duck hawk, sharp-shin ned hawk, prairie falcon, goshowk, English sparrow, great horned owl, northern shriks, cormorants, Amer ican marganser, crows, and ravens, magpies and blue jays. To rob any birds' nest except such birds as are not protected by law. To hunt without having hunting license on person, and to refuse to show same on demand of proper of ficer or owner or representative of real property where hunting. To hunt at night. To sell or have in possession plum age of protected birds. To hunt on any game reservation. To disguise sex or kind of any game. To hunt deer with dogs. To lie in wait near licks while hunting deer. To sell game of any kind except when propagated according to law. To shoot game from public high ways or railroad rights of way. To wantonly waste game. For aliens to hunt without a spec ial gun license. To shoot from any power, sink or sneak boat, or sink box. To hunt on enclosed or occupied unenclosed lands without permission of owner. To trap fur-bearing animals with out a license. To burn tules between February 15 and September 15, excepting by permit from State Game Warden. To have in possession more tlian 40 pounds of Jerked venison. To tran, net or ensnare game ani mals, birds or fish, except as ex pressly provided. To hunt within the corporate lim its of any city or town, public park or cemetery, or on any campus or grounds of any public school, col lege, or university, or within the boundaries of any watershed reserva tion as set aside by the United States to supply water to cities, or within any national bird or game reserva tion. To resist game wardens or other officers charged with the enforcement of the game laws. To angle for any fish without hav ing a license on person, and to refuse to show same on demand of proper officer. To fish by any other means than by hook and line. To use salmon spawn In Willam ette river and tributaries south of East Independence station, Marios county. To cast lumber waste, dye, chem icals, decaying substance, etc., or to use powder or poisonous substances in streams. To fish at night or on stream with in 200 feet below any fishway. To sell trout, bass, crappies, cat fish, white fish or grayling. To maintain an irrigation ditch without having it screened at the in take. Keep Dogs Muzzled. Heppner, Oregon, July 20, 1915. Owing to the prevalence of rabies in the immediate vicinity of Heppner, the City Council, looking to the wel fare of the people of our town, has ordained that ail dogs shall be muz zled or kept chained up until such time as the City Health Officer thinks the danger is past. Therefore the Marshal has been instructed to kill all dogs found running at large with out muzzles within the corporate lim its of the City of Heppner on or after July 25th, 1915. Due notice will be given when this order is annulled. This order will be strictly enforced. People outside the city limits are re quested to keep dogs at home as there will be no exception made. Rabies has ceased to be a joke and the welfare of the people demands this action. W. W. SMEAD, Mayor. L ITEMS OF L Chief Activities in The Line of Min ing and Building. There has been talk of a shoe fac tory in Salem. A $100,000 Mausoleum will be erected in Portland. Scenic highway to rim of Crater Lake has been finished. Douglas county fair will be held September 15, 16 and 17. The $2,000 swimming establish ment is completed at Eugene. Pendleton has commenced con struction of a $9,000 steel bridge. 12,000 acres at Medford have been signed up for an irrigation project. Salem Commercial Club is working to establish a broom factory at Sa lem. Reports say Hood River apple crop will be short 30 to 40 per cent this year. Business is better says D. W Campbell, Asst. Gen. Mgr., of the S P. Co. The Newport Ice & Fish Co. made a shipment of ten tons of halibut to Portland. Millions of Norwegian herring came to Siuslaw bay for the first time in 8 years. 63 lumber cargoes left Astoria in July with a total of 45,857,094 feet including rafts. The third annual corn show of the O-W. R. & N. Co. will be held this year at Walla Walla. Eugene's 2,500,000 gallon reser voir will be ready for use August 15, according to reports. The Columbia Highway between Astoria and Portland will be opened to travel August 12. Portland Woolen Mills plans to increase its force 20 per cent in an ticipation of large orders. T. M. Anderson took a piece of quartz into Grants Pass as big as two fists, apparently one-half gold. The Southern Pacific has announc ed that it will make a 30,000 yard fill on a big trestle near Coquille. C. A. Parker, representing New York capitalists, is reported to be leasing land for oil test purposes in Coos county. It is reported that two California companies will soon begin extensive operations for gold in black saud on South Inlet, Coos county. Bond & Gargett, owners of the Gold Run mine, located on the south- est slopes of Red mountain, are planning to install ten stamps, ac cording to a report that comes from Baker hills. It is reported that a California company is taking over the mining on the Sixes River, Curry county, and according to present preparations will have between 150 and 200 men at work in the course of a few months.
