Wi.r Uiiii.S MAKE HIT. u ntiuued ir, u First Pa-e.l I'ei.r.syl.ama building with its his toric and iircatly beloved Liberty :i"il has nothing on the Oregon build ing. These artists, who last week sup plied the Eastern Oregon booth with two immense designs in which light and dark cherries were used to form the Americau flag and an eagle upou a shield have now sent down a "Lib erty Bell" done in Rings and Royal Anns. The design is four by six feet, and the representation of the bell, even to the crack in this historic reik is perfect. The idea pleases the pub lic and the size and beauty of the cherries pleases the visitors even more. Eastern Oregon cherries, com ing in two weeks after the Willamette Valley, Rogue River and Hood River cherries, have the field to themselves and attract very much attention. Most easterners have never seen cher ries the size of Oregon Blngs and Lamberts, such as Eastern Oregon has on display at the Palace of Hor ticulture and the showing is in the nature of a real treat. Besides the Liberty Bell, the immense flag shown at the Cove cherry fair two weeks ago, and which traveled 1050 miles to get here, is still on display in the Eastern Oregon booth. Eastern Oregon Wins. Eastern Oregon scored another bull's eys this week. In the selection of officers for the permanent organi zation of those connected with Ore gon activities at the Exposition, Mr. J. A. Lackey, of Malheur county and director of the Eastern Oregon booth was made chairman, while J. A. Ward of Coos and Curry, was made secre tary. Since Commissioner Logan's arrival at the building there have been weekly or semi-weekly meetings of all connected in any way with the work here, and these have proved so successful in securing desired results that it was determined to make a per manent organization. Mr. Lackey, because of his geniality and the lack of ritriol in his system, was placed in the seat of honor. The meetings will continue as heretofore and each and every person will have fullest opportunity to voice suggestions for the good of the cause. This makes it possible for all to work together In unity and to assist Manager Hyland in the effective work that is being done. Famed Visitors Like Vs. Jack London, famed author just in from a five-months sea trip, came to the Oregon building the other day, saw the exhibits, registered and un der "remarks" said: "Fine and splen did." To the one in charge Jack said he could write a book about the Ore gon showing. Incidently he remark ed that he had been buying the Coos Bay myrtle wood furniture for sev eral years, had $700 worth ordered at this time, and that he thought it the most beautiful of all woods. Fran cis Wilson, world-famous stage artist, has come to the building several times. He thinks the furniture made by Oregon children, together with the dresses and other features in the ed ucational display, wonderful in the extreme but not more wonderful than that 75c luncheon served by the domestic science girls from the Ag ricultural College. Mrs. Phoebe Hearst, the greatest of the great in the Bay region, is another charmed with the domestic science luncheons. Senator Ben Tillman, brandishing a cane rather than a pitchfork, saw the sights and said he would go back to Carolina the happier for having recti Oregon's building anil display. Teddy Roosevelt failed to get into the Ore gon building but dashed through the Oregon exhibit lu the horticultural palace and was "delighted" as, a mat ter of course.
