The miners are now in free mining ore which assays $60 a ton. The Maniiith ledge, the principal one of the district, is now making the ar rangements for the purchase of a I large mill. Water and timber are! plentiful. The mines are about forty 1 miles from Pendleton, and are easily' accessible from town. C. L. Andrews and C. W. Young gren left last Sunday on an extended trip through Idaho, Nevada and the northern part of California. They went on horse back and were pre- pared to do considerable hunting as they go along. It will take the bal ance of the summer for them to make tiie trip, which will be a pleasant one in many respects. Neither of these gentlemen will return to Heppner, but just where thej will locate, they j have not decided. j Blue Mountain Eagle: The draw ing of the lots in the Mt. Vernon ad dition to Heppner came off on July 1st as was advertised and several good lots are now in possession of Long Creek residents. Better Karin Buildings Aim of New Court. Oregon Agricultural College, Cor vallis, July 19. "Modern farmers, orchardists and dairymen are begin ning to demand scientific and econ omical buildings," says L. E. Robin son, instructor in architecture at the Oregon Agricultural College. "Stud ents at tiiis institution are to be given the opportunity to specialize in rural architecture. Although this is a de partture from the regular order of college work, the demand for better buildings is becoming so positive that it will be necessary to train men for this special branch of service. More over the women of the farm are de manding convenient and sanitary homes at the same time the men are calling for modern out-buildings. Thus it is necessary to train botli men and women students in this line of work in order to supply the de mand for improved conditions." Bulletins, in which farm buildings are discussed and rurnislieu wmi plans conforming to modern condi tions, will he issued by the Extension division. In these bulletins all so lutions of the farm house problems are to be based on the strictest econ omy, since the average man engaged in agriculture has but a limited amount of money to spend on house improvements. Convenient kitchens, sanitary fixtures, drainage, economi cal arrangements and better sur roundings, will be the main points discussed and illustrated in the bulle tins. Bulletin on County and Community Pairs. Oregon Agricultural College, Cor vallis, July 19.- County and Com munity Fairs is the title of a new bulletin just issued by the Extension division of the Oregon Agricultural College. The authors of the bulletin are W. S. Brown, E. 11. Fitts and C. C. Lamb, who state that its four-fold purpose is as follows: To give methods of arrangement and management that will avoid lack of uniformity in best arrangement of exhibits. To give information to producers and exhibitors that will aid them in selecting and preparing exhibits. To aid fair officers in compiling premium lists. To secure the adoption of a uni form system of classification, thereby enhancing the educational value of competitive exhibits. It is thought that this information when acted upon will be an incentive to farmers to grow and exhibit more and better products. The bulletin will be sent free to all citizens of Oregon who request it. Misses Muriel and Marie Cason, popular young ladies of lone, visited in Heppner over Sunday with friends. They returned to thetr home Monday morning. Mr and Mm Sum Cnrhran have again taken possession of their farm home near Monument. J. E. Porter, of Tacoma, bought the place several months ago, but has now turned it back and has moved w ith his family to Tacoma. Frank Mason, extensive farmer of the Lexington section, was in Hepp ner on business last Monday. Edmtr Avu-s. nronrintor of the Home theater, is making some im provements to his house this week by way of interior and exterior decor ations. Vickers and son are doing the work. Emmet Cochran, the Grant county stockman, came over from his ranch the first of the week.
