Prof. L. A. Poak of lone was in
Lexington one day last week.
Samuel Devine returned Thursday
after spending his vacation in Port
land. James Pointer has returned home
from a two weeks stay at Sliippard
Springs.
H. C. Gay of Rhea creek was
transacting business in Lexington
Monday.
Mrs. E. A. Pointer returned from
Shippard Springs, Wash., after rest
ing up for a week.
Joe Thornburg and Mrs. Coy
Thornburg of Ritter are visiting at
the home of William Thornburg.
Miss Ina Gilbert arrived last week
from Spokane. She will have charge
of the primary class for the coining
year.
This week there was a sign paint
er in town. Several new signs help
the appearance of the business prop
erties. Mrs. Anna Seigman and children
are visiting her sister, Mrs. Thomas
Niclcois. Vier home is in Clarkston,
Wash.
Last Thursday evening part of the
earth was blessed with a thirty min
ute light shower. The first since
July 13.
Mr. and Mrs. Purson arrived from
Spokane for a visit with Mrs. Pur
son's parents, Mr. and Mrs. WTilliam
Thornburg.
Public school opened up Monday
morning with every teacher in at
tendance. Many new pupils are en
rolled this year.
Miss May Severance, one of the
public school teachers at this place
is here to take up the school work
for another year.
Another shower of rain Monday
morning. The air is clear, the smoke
is gone and it is hoped that some
heavier showers will follow.
Several young people went to
Rheas Siding Sunday to follow the
sport of killing rabbits. No trouble
was experienced in finding plenty of
game.
Mrs. Sadie Palmer has moved
from the mountains to her home on
the farm, two and a half miles west
of Lexington, where she will remain
for the winter.
Miss Flora Bissell, who has been
visiting her sister, Miss Ramona Bis
sell for the past two weeks, left to
take up her duties as teacher at
Tygh Valley, Oregon.
Harried At the M. E. church par
sonage, Wednesday afternoon, Mr.
William Lunford and Mrs. Mary Lee.
A few friends were present. Rev.
Lester Taber officiated.
Joe Ausborn has just completed a
new residence and barn on his farm
two and a half miles north of Lex
ington. The work was done by W.
J. Davis and his crew of carpenters.
J. B. Coxen and wife arrived home
after a vacation spent at Shippard
Springs. Bud Clark, who officiated
for Mr. Coxen during his absence,
has returned to his home in Heppner.
Miss Vesta Cutsforth left Friday
to take up her duties as teacher in
the Athena high school. Miss Cuts
forth recently closed a summer
school at Tide Lake, in Southern
Alberta, Canada.
Mis:-; Ramona Bissell, who has
conducted the ice cream parlors at
this place during vacation, departed
for La Grande, Ore., to take up her
v ork as a teacher in the public
schools of that place.
Prof. Stephen Doak and wife ar
rived last week. Mr. Dcak will as
sume the principalship of the Lex
ington schools. He is not a stranger
iu Lexington, having taught here
two years ago. He spent his vaca
tion visiting his old home in Virgin
ia. Rsv. Lester Tabcr returned from
the annual conference of the Metho
dist church, held at Milton, Monday,
ile has been assigned to work at
Wingville, Baker county, Ore., where
lie will move -with his family. Mr.
Taber has had charge of the work
at this place for the past two years
and all who know him will regret
his leaving, and all unite in wishing
him success where ever he may go.
IRRIGON.
Warren Corey and Geo. Caldwell
have returned from harvest.
Mr. McCam of Ohio is the prin
cipal of the Irrigon school this year.
Myrtle L. Vance, who is teacher
in the primary grades, arrived Sun
day morning.
Esther and Gertie Graybeal came
down from Pendleton Sunday. They
will attend school here this term.
School started here Tuesday. Most
of the high school pupils will proba
bly start later, as they are busy at
present.
Mr. Graybeal and family of Ka-
mela are preparing to spend the
winter In Irrigon, He hasi rented
the Doering house.
Mr. Bacon has moved into the Wil
son house. Several -other families
are also moving into town. New
houses will soon be required if they
keep coming at the present rate.
