The voters of Origan will pass on 24 amendments to the constitution and 13 bills at the November elec tion. More are being incubated and there will probably bo forty sate wide propositions and perhaps twice as many local municipal measures. Many of these bills if not all will im pose new burdens on the people, in vent new taxes, create new boards and offices. Here are some of them: To grant to "every person" a $1500 exemption on assessed valua tion. Household goods are already exempt. Two tax amendments to allow tax ation of . incomes, "proportional, graduated or progressive taxation," whatever that may be. A sur-tax amendment of SO cents per $100 on all above $25,000, and graduated to $3 per $100' on all above $100,000. A tax on all land not public prop erty. This would tax churches, col leges not owned by the state, and is in line with single tax ideas. To create the office of Lieutenant Governor to be president of the Sen ate and get $10 a day when Legis lature sits. To abolish the senate. By State Grange, State Federation of Labor, and Peoples Power League, authors of nearly all the freak legislation in Oregon. To abolish the death penalty as a punishment for capital crimes. To prohibit manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors except for medical purposes, or for scientific, sacramental or mechanical purposes. To increase salary of members of the legislature to $5 per day and mileage of 10 cents. To authorize state bonds for con struction of irrigation and water power projects by the state to amount of 2 per cent of state val uation. To prohibit paid circulation of in itiative and referendum petitions. For non-partisan judiciary on pe tition of one per cent of the voters. Proportional representation by Grange, Peoples Power League and Federation of Labor. To authorize the Governor to re move from office county officials who fail to co-operate with him in ' en forcement of laws, and appoint others in their place. To revoke franchises of Portland Gas & Coke Co., by Portland Cen tral Labor Council. To take over channels of rivers and authorize leasing same to cities, and construction of public docks. For eight hour day and ventilation of rooms for women workers. Stringent Sunday law against all places of amusement for gain, by Washington County Christian En deavor Union. Universal eight hour day in fac tory or farm. Special tax for employment of un employed laborers. Change election law requiring only fifteen days residence in precinct. Registration certificate to vote anywhere in the state. IliRIGON ITEMS Earl Rand spent Sunday at the Doble home. Robert Crooks from Castle Rock was in Irrigon a short time last week. Carrie McCoy visited in Umatilla last week with her aunt, Mrs. Carl Brownell and friends. She returned home Sunday morning. Guy Corey with Misses Carrie Mc Coy and Eleanor Corey spent last Sunday at the Kicker ranch. They rode out on horseback. Miss Bolrdla George returned home from Pendleton last Sunday morning. She will leave again about the fifth for the mountains. J. L. Egbert arrived home from the East last Monday morning. He went back to Minnesota last Spring with his wife and says that now her health is much improved. Apricots and early peaches are now ripening off and we have been shipping for the past week. Road ruck and Garver will handle most of the early fruit in that line this year. Roy Minnick from Umatilla spent a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Minnick at this place last week.
