Up to the first of April the ineet Insrs will be open to all citizens, but after that time the organization will hold Its business meetings In the presence of members only. You will want to attend every meeting, so get right with yourself and the Club and shell out that $1.50 for a mem bership card. As one man remarked, ''That amount will not hurt anybody and It may help to do us all a lot of good." The Club Is rapidly getting on a working basis. The committees thus far appointed have accomplished results very satisfactory to the or ganization and everything points to a successful campaign of promotion and publicity. There has been no 'desire on the part of any of the mem bers to go out and do some great big thing, but on the contrary to look after the many small tilings which Interest the community at large. That is the object of every commercial body and in no other way can club work be successful. Tills is a basis on which every citizen of Heppner and contiguous territory can come in on and the result ofsucli co-operative effort will be of Inesti mable value. This Club will need money, of course, but the need of personal co-operation is far greater. Thoughtful preparation will make the Club's finances go much farther and with a good big workingorgnn i.ation the demand on each member will be moderate. In speaking of the need of a com mercial club, President Smead said: "I make this statement without fear of contradiction. There Is not a town today, in Oregon or any other state, which is going ahead in any respect but has a good live commer cial club. On the other hand, there is not a dead town in any of the ter rltory mentioned which liasanykind of a commercial organization." Isn't that the truth? We havesampleH of both here in Oregon, but it's a cinch we don't want Heppner classified with the latter. How shall we have a live commer cial organization? By everybody joining the rlub andthenKittiugliack and leave the work to a few public spirited citizens? We think not. For every membership card we must have a good, live booster for Hepp ner and Morrow county. In nootlier wav can real effective work be ac complished. Certainly the heavier work must fall upon those having the management of the Club, lint is it not possible for you, Mr Citizen, to give two evenings of the month to the welfare and upbuilding of the community in which you live? Have not you some ideas on the subject of community betterment you think wortli while to discuss with your fellow man? You surely have. It will not cost you a cent to express your ideas. Attend the meet lugs, say what you have to say, hear the other fellow's views, and then line up with the Club for a bigger and bet ter Heppner. There Is no room in Heaven for the knocker. His soul is too small to generate light and niiiH lie cast into the dark. He is a failure here on earth and howls at the success of others. He usually knows more about the other fellow's business than ids own, probably from the reason that he has very little busi ness of his own. At the last meeting of the Club an entertainment committee was ap pointed to serve one month. It is composed of live wires and the niein. Iiers can expect some high jinx In the near future.
