Kicker of Irrieon, educator and horticulturist is attending teach ers institute this week. Matt Hughes has moved his family into town and the children will attend school here this winter. McMurdo returned from Portland last Sunday evening after an absence of two weeks from this city. Clyde Wells and family returned from Portland Sunday evening where they have been visiting for the past two weeks. Misses Eva E. Swansoh and Alice Thayer teachers in the Lexington school are attending the Institute in Heppner this week. H. V. Gates of Portland, president of the Heppner Light, and Water Co., is in the city on business connected with the company. Mrs. Herbert Bartholomew and her two small grandchildren are up from Portland visiting at the home of B. R. Patterson. Wm. Beamer shipped three cars ot mutton sheep from the Heppner yards Monday Consigned to the Benson Commission Co. at Portland. The Ladies Aid Society of the Federated church will serve lunch with hot coffee, inside the fair grounds during the three days of the fair. John Kilkenny, county comissioner and one of the leading sheepman of Morrow county, was among those re turning from Pendleton last Sunday. Hon. J. A. Churchill of Salem, state superintendent of schools is in the city this week. He is an instruct or at the teachers institute which is now in session. A general clean up of the city is in progress and if we could only have about two days of rain to settle the dust and clear the atmosphere, the old town would' indeed put up a fine appearance for the fair visitors. The exercises con sisted in music, vocal and instru mental, recitations, and a seneral good time. So far as we were able to judge the new teanhers in the couqty, without exception, made a very favorable impression upon our people and we hope they were equally well impressed with what they saw of Heppner folks. G. W. Ship ley, all of Heppner arrived in the citv yesterday evening and will visit with relatives and friends in this vicinity for a week. They are spend ing today with relatives at Pilot Rook. This is Mr. Shipley's first visit to the city in 29 years and he finis the old town grnwu out of his recollection. He was formerly a farmer north of ttiis city. Live Wire Pendleton. She has been engaged as an instructor in the domes tic science department of the Albany high school. Her sister. Miss Leona accompanied her aud will go on to Corvallis where she will take no her senior work in the Uregon Agricul tural Colleee. Miles Potter came over from Spray the first of the wees to enter Heppner high school for another year; He will stay with his aunt, Mrs. Delia Hallock. Harry Dnncan is wearing a bandage over his right eye as the result of a recent operation on the eye lid for a small growth which has been bother ing him for some time. . Rev. T. Miss Ruth Forbes Brown returned to Forest Grove !ast Monday after spending the summer months in this city with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Brown. Miss Ruth will con tinue her studies at Pacific University. W. O. Hill journeyed down to Port land last Snday to attend the conveu tion of county clerks iu session there this week.
