About three paintings will usually be enough to bring about a prompt recovery. In some instances, however, more applications will be necessary. "A few doses of potassium iodine internally will assist in carina more obstinate cases. Of this I would recommend two teaspooufuls twice daily then an interval of three days followed 1)V a four days course again The above dosage is for any calf over three months old and under six Larcer animals should receive larger doses in proportion." Children Cry for Fletcher's F I AND GAME DEPTS. 10 COOPERATE Will Aid Each Other inEn- forcing Laws and Pre venting Fires. Removing Scale on Calves' Eyes and Noses. In response to an inquiry from Bend, Dr. B. W. Hollis, veterinarian of the Oregon Agricultural College, writes as follows on the treatement of scale growth on the eyes andnoses of calves: "I note that you say your calves and yearlings have a heavy scale around their eyes and down to the nose. This scale is due to a fungus growth, and in most cases will come off of its own accord in the spring. Cases which are extensive should, however be treated promptly. "As treatment I would recommend that you scrape off the scale with a Tne United States forestry service and the state Kame wardens will co operate for the protection of game as well as of the forests, under an agree ment recently entered into between State Game Warden Finley and Dis trict Forester Cecil. The agreement provides that rangers, assistant rangers and other officer! may be ap pointed deputy game wardens. They will report all violations of the game laws within their respective dis r.cts and will also make airests in cases which come under their personal ob servation, except during the fire sea son. On the other hand the regular deputy name wardens will extinguish any small fires they may discover and all such fires will be as promptly as possible reported to the forest officer in charge of that district. The Forest Service department has recently taken up the work of reclass ification of lands in the national forest reserves with a view to opening up for settlement such agricultural lands as may now be included within the re serve bonndries. Under the plan for this work the bureau of soils will determine what soils are agricultural n character, experts of the forest service will determine whether or not the value of the timber on such lands 8 greater than the agriculnral valua tion and if not any lands which are found valuable for agriculture and not needed for public purposes will be mmediately opened to settlement and entry under the homestead laws. From the man witLi the universal panacea ior all the ilia of the farm ing business deliver ua! Keep shy of the fellow who preaches the doctrine of a specific fertilizer for all soils, a flock of sheep for every farm, deep plowing under all conditions, co-operative creamery where there are few cows. Suppress the man there are scores of such who ia certain that he alone, lias the solution of all problems and that a law with an appropriation embodying his views is all that is needed to set the world aright. The fanny cart of it is that most of these rapidfiie regulators don't know anything about farming or farm prob lems from actual oontact. Meanwhile the regular farmer goes about his business of feeding mnukiud. doing the best he can in most cases, bearing the burdens of a stalwart citizen and rearing an industrious and efficient family upon which commerce, art and the professions must ever draw heavy for recruits. Farm and Home. "People's Courts." There are "people's courts" in Germany for the poorer people from which lawyers are barred. The pro cedure is bosioesslike an! free from red tape. Kansas has bot rowed the idea and under a reoent law county commissioners are empowered to ap point a judge for the debtor's court from which lawyers are excluded. The judge hears the stories of the plaintiff and defendant, examines such witnesses as he cares to hear and gives his decision. As lawyers are not admitted, there is no chance for legal quibbles and delays which seriously interfere with the business of our courts without serving the ends of justice. 1 We offer the services of a well-equip ped bank with sufficient capital and resources to care for the needs of our territory New Accounts Invited Four per cent, paid on Savings Accounts Exchange bought and sold We issue exchange on all important Foreign Cities LLki ESTABLISHED IN 1887 N fisJl o So' You Can 9t Build Up 8 A Home Institution by Patron izing Outside Concerns th We have spent several thousand dollars during i-ii; n I e past summer remoaemng our riour mm ana now have a modern, up-to-date plant If you are not using our flour we would ask you to give our new brand a t ial.
