The men working on the telephone line between Echo and Hepnner were at O.S. Hodsdon's serveral nights last week. A month ago there was a basket dinner at Hodsdons school house and as all had such a good time thev have planued to have another on July 13, All come. The Sunday School has ordered Union S.S. literature whioh will be here for Joly 6th. Evrevbody come and take pact in the work and help elect officers for the coming year. The second wire has beeu added to the Sand Holllow and Lexington tele phone line with a switch at Mr. Burnett's store, which gives the lower line service eix days in the week at "store hours" only. The rher is falling rnpidly and ib again within its proper bounds. W. R. Walpole departed for Port land last Sunday to visit Mrs.Valpole and children. A large number of Hermiston people were down here duriue the last two weeks to pick cherries. The cherry season is over now bnt Oh you dewberries. There will be a big crop ot them. Apricots will follow close after. Mr. Harry Lester is clerking for Mr. Egbert now. Business in the soda pop and root beer line is rushing and it keeps Harry busy to hand out the goods, A number of baseball fans went to Umatilla last Sunday to see the Hei-miston-UmatiMa game. Dunsuiuir of The Dalles, rep resenting the Pacific Home Insurance Co. wain a bu iness visitor in Cecil Saturday. Bryan Lee, half brother to N. E. Lee returned to his home at Dallas Oregon, Saturday last after spending couple of monthB here. J. W. Osborn was a passenger to Arlington Tuesday. Mr. Osborn still has ou baud about 4000 sacks of wheat for Bale in the Warehouse at Cecil. Miss Viola Shea of Pendleton spent several days at the home of W. 13. Ewing the past week. Miss Shea taught Mr. Ewing's private school the past winter and spring. The fine rains of the rat week have been a great benefit to the growing grain and all vegetation. However soma alfalfa hay yet in the fields was damaged to a slight extent. Peter Nash, Jr. of Moro, Ore. came up last week for a few days visit with relatives and friends here. Mr. Nash was principal of the Moro sehool8 the past year and will fill the game pnsitiou the coming year. Mrs. Miller and little son of Pen dletou are spending the week end at Mr. and Mrs Frnuklin's on what was formerly the Rogers place. Mr. and Mrs. Miller are the present owners of the place and Mr. Frankin's lessee. A jolly party if ten ladies and children from Cecil spent Sunday at the old Sennett place on Eight Mile Tbe day was a trifle threatening bnt otherwise ideal for oicnicing, aHho a few showers fell it did not dampen the ardor of the crowd and a good time was had by all. It haa been twelve years since the writer visited tbe old homestead and what has transpired in a decade causes me to realize more vividly just how old Rip Van Winkle felt when be awoke from his twenty year's slumber.
