The year of 1895 h beyond doubt the supreme year of the fruit grower of Oregon. YV bile a fruit crop failure s never known in this state, still on the other hand nsver before were the pros pects so good for a mammoth crop of all kinds of fruit throughout the state not alone in one county or section but generally in every section of the state. Within a year the mails be tween New York,' and Brooklyn will be whisked back and forth through pneumatic tubes, running from one government building to the other. The pipes will be large enough to admit small pouches and it is said the cost will not exceed $100,000. The pneumatic delivery of parcels also is under considera tion in several large cities. The revival of California gold mining, which began two years ago when the great financial panic caused a demand for gold throughout the entire business world, is still gathering force. California goldmines are now sending to the Ban Francisco i fineries f 1,300,000. . in . gold per month, as against $1,000,000 per month s year ago. There is great demand for mining machin ery in all foundries and shops. In th first three months of 1895 12,391 telephones ere added to the number under rental which was two-thirds of the gain of the whole of last year; but in the sec ond or current quarter, April to June inclusive, the increase is 33,-; OiiO, or more than twice the gain of the full year 1894. There are 55. 1 36 more of these instruments in use today than a year ago an increase of ten per eent. This is one of the best proofs of reviving business and mercantile expansion. The report of the weather bureau for the week ending July 15 is that the opinion as to the probable good yield of fall grain has not . hansed. Hops are slrieht. The potato crop is uuiveWDy good. The hay crop is good and heavy in many places. There is an abuud- dauce of fruit and the shipment are large. From Eastern Oregon the report is that the yield of groin will be light, and no crop will be large or even good except in a few sections. The Kansas City Times proposes to take a party of representative business men, including the mayor of Kansas City, to the manufactur ing and business centers of New England. These men are to en lighten the New Englanders as to the advantages of Kansas City as a commercial center, advertising the: city as much ss possible, and in- cidetally gathering taluable infor mation in regard to industries in New England, in which Kansas City is also interested. The Timet will print a special edition of 320r 000 copies for Easterners, to be distributed free, and the advertis ing in this edition is to pay the ec jnes of the trip. Printers Ink. C Emerson, of Iowa, president H. Sheak was elected professor of science, W. A. Law professor of mathematics, Mrs. Mary Bradford professor of English literature and Miss Jennie Bradford instructor of the musical department. Little Dick Allen, the 6-year-old son of E. C. Allen, proprietor of the Golden Rule hotel at Pendle ton, while sliding down the balus ter of the main stairway in the hotel, lost his balance and fell from the rail on the second floor to the corridor beneath, striking on his head. This was Friday after noon, and at last accounts he was still unconscious. ' The Conley farm in the Grand valley, will not have a firstclass yield this year, but a better onr than last There are 4000 acres m wheat, 600 acres of which have been damaged by grasshoppers; 900 acres will give a good half crop and 2500 acres will yield probably twenty to twenty-five bushels to the acre. It is estimated that from the present outlook the Conley fields will turn out a total of 70000 to 75000 bushels of wheat this year. V.
