Scio is to have a new brick school building. Bonds drawing 6j per cent aie being sold. The city of Tillamook is out of debt, has money in the treasury, and levied no tax this yen. The Scio Press is laboring with commendable zeal for the establ ishment of a creamery in that por tion of Lino county. Elgin citizens will hold a meet ing next week to consider a pro position for the construction of s Souring mill at that place. The annual tax of the California & Oregon Land Company, which has just been paid in Klamath county, amounted to 12,408. Clatsop county is thoroughly astir on the subject of good roads, and some good roads to its tribut ary regions are likely to be built Misses Ada and Julia Moore, of Chetco, have fallen heir to $10,000 each, their uncle dying in Sonoma county, Cal,, and leaving them his wealth. II. V. Gates haB signed the con tract for an electric light plaut at Klamath Falls. Gates is just home at H llsboro from a Califor nia trip. Jerry White of Baker, has the contract of constructing a water ditch from Jordan creek to the Chicago Company's placer mines, on Burnt river, a distance of 2i miles. The dwelling of Seth Childs, at Alsca, with all its contents,' was burned one day last week during the absence of the family. There was no insurance and tbe loss can be ill afforded". The Southern Pacific Company has commenced putting in a pass enger station at Hillsboro, and some necessary side-track. A tele graph station will also be included with the new things. An educational convention will be held in Eugene, under the au spices of the University of Oregon, May 18, 1895. It is expected that a permanent organization will be effected and annual meetings held. The Baker City Democrat says the Bais'.ey-Elkhorn mine is not closed down, but is employing from" 25 to 30 men. The amalga mator at the mine, Mr. W. J. Brooks, says the ore never looking better. Mrs. Rebecca Oeburn, a well known pioneer woman,' and the mother of several prominent men and women of the Willamette valley, died at Eugene Tuesday morning, of neuralgia of the heart. , ' : , ' Bids, will be received by W. Mr. Spores was born in the state of j New York in 1795. and was en- gaged in the fight with the British at Snckett's Harbor, X. Y.t in 1814. He was a pioneer of 1847. Miss Emma Smith, step-daughter of Mr. Pate, living at Cornelius who work" in the family of Mi. John Sewell, living three and a hr.lf miles east of town, was seri ously hurt last Saturday ' by a gunshot wound in the thigh. She and Sewell's 12-year-old boy were target-shooting, and the gun went off accidentally in his bands. The bullet has nut been recovered. The Oregon presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian church met at Woodburn Friday. Kev. G. A. Blair, pastor of the First church ,at Portia preached the opening sermon. Standing erect on his hind legs Bruin made a bow to Will, and offered his acquaint an e; but the dog took hold of hie hind leg and he started to run.
