Johnny lust Tuesday even was a fair
entertainment, and enjoyed by those
present. The songs were a few Htleo
tious of the day. They were sacred,
sentimental, comic and negro melodies.

small sum, but speaks well, consider
ing the times. Mrs. Holinan intends
to have him give a concert at Salem,
nnd with a plum to Portland and re
duced medical rates while there, which
she has securud him hopes to have the
needed operations performed.

Last Saturday evening the boys of
this place hud a great deal of sport out
of two drunken men who came out of
the foot-hills. It seems that these Iwj
individuals had not been to town for a
long time aud after attending to their
business, proceeded to gin -up, which

firstclass fools out of themselves.
They started out of the city on a dead
run, but one of them fell off bis horse

Mr.C. C. Copper had stroke of
paralysis recently.

Thursday to meet his wife who had;
been visiting In Oregon City. ;,

from Oregon City to visit relatives in
this place.
Considerable interest was manifested
n the revival services which were held
here by Rev. W. W. Mulloy ' of Leb
anon. Some one dug their way under Mr.
Ames smokehouse In which was stored
quite a lot of meat, the other night but
failed to get any meat. When they
came upon the Inside they struck some
boards and supposing the house was
floored gave up the attempt. '
Mr. Bowel tapped an insurance agent
on the head with a poker one day last
week, Dr. Gibson was summoned
who dressed the wounds after which
the agent left for a milder climate.
Wlllam McKliinou and wife of Can
non Creek spent Sunday In this place.
Jud Mealey passed through town
with quite a band of sheep lost week.
' Hugh Fisher and Floyd Rowel went
on a trip to Albany Saturday.
Bert Powel of Lebanon passed
through our burg last Sunday.

several day last week obtaining signers
to a petition to civlde the county.

The friends of Miss Ida Smith who
enjoyed the pleasure of attending the
social gathering, given la:,t Friday
evening at the residence of Mr. David
Smith, will long remember it as one of
the pleasurable events of their lives.
No pains were spaired by their hosts to
to make it a su"ccss. Among the en
tertaining features of the evening were
gives of various kinds, music and a
bounteous supper, which was by no
means the least. Those present did
not expect to attend a teast but bad
that been their expectation, they
would, by no means have been disap
pointed. After supper the games were
resumed, and the put ty ended at one
wee hours, with a lively game of "Old
Dau Tucker." The guests departed on
their homeward way too lighthearted
to sink very deep into the mud which
is sure to be encountered on a country
road of Oregon.

land two weeks at the bedside of bis
little gjandsou, Willie, who has since
passed to the hlfber life. He is ex
pected borne this week, aud will bring
with him, Mrs. Charles Cummings, for
a change and much needed rest.
Mr. Eether went to Lebanon Tues
day, says he appreciates the walk,
lately built from the olty limits to the

Mr. Brown of Sodaville closed a very
successful termof school here this win
ter, and many are wishing his services
could be secured for the coming spring
and summer.

B. B. Westum of Spring Farm, is
suffering from a protracted spell of
rheumatism.
Cornelius Kinder and wife were in
Lebanon one (lay lost week and says
the roads are awful muddy.

Should be Stopped. -Some
parents of this city surely don't
know that their boys congregate round
the depot In the evening when the
train comes In, and some go so
far as to try and ump ou the cars
when in motion, again they climb up
ou top of the freight boxes and act as
brakemeu when the trainmen are do
ing the switching. And as It gets
durk about the time the train acts In,
they can not always be seen. We have
seen boys running aoruss the track In
front of the train, when, If they had
fallen would surely have been killed.
Parents should always know where
their boys are, (specially at train time.

Deputy Sheriff Moore, of Sweet
Home, passed through Lebanon lost
Friday ufternoo., enroule to Albany
with Miss India Howes, daughter of
George W. HoweB, ordered produced
on a write of habeas corpus. This is
the case where Mr. Howes refused to
allow his daughter to marry Mr. E. C.
Russell and had locked her up. Mr.
Howes has made arrangements to
move to Missouri to locate. The mat
ter was settled by Mks Howes agree
ing to go to Missouri, with her parents
for one year, and then if she desires
she may return to Oregon and marry
the man of her choice. The marriage
license will remain of uo ute for at
least one year.

salary, is an improvement upon the
present law in that it extinguishes
