Most of the teams summer-following were six horse walk ing gangs. I saw one twelve horse team plowing with a double gang, cut ting four furrows. They plow from one to three miles around the field. ' The populists have made boasts that they would poll three-fourths of all the votes In the forks, so you can Imagine our surprise when we go't there to find only about fifteen or twenty people not counting the speakers, The speeches were the same dry, old story we have liecn hearing the past three months. Permit me to say here that if that crowd was a sample of what their vote will be In June in proportion to their numbers, it will certainly be small. Ezra Poppleton, a citizen of Wash ington, has commenced suit in the United States court against Charles Niokell, publisher of the Times, Jack sonville, and democratic candidate for secretary ot state, to recover 110,000, for damages by a libel. Mr. Pupple ton, It appears, visited Jacksonville to introduce some kind of a dry washing process, which was intended to revolu tionize placer mining. When he left town, he alleges that Nickell published an article about him in which be was styled a crank and a bilk, and it was stated' that he had left unpaid bills behind him, etc., on account of which Mr. Poppleton demands $10,000 dam ages. .
