WKSCFALL, City Council meet3 on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month. to An At to Exempt Homeatanitl Be it enacted by the Legislative Assemb ly of the Beate of Oregon : Section 1. The homestead of any family shall be exempt from judicial sale for the satisfaction on any liability hereafter con tracted, or for the satisfaction of any judg ment hereafter obtained on such debt. - Section 2. Such homestead must be the, actual abode of, and owned by, such family or some members thereof. Section 3. Such homestead shall not ex wed fifteen hundred dollars in valne, exceed one hundred and sixty acres in ex tent, if not located in town or city laid into block and lots; If located in any such town or city, then it shall tut exceed one block; but in no instance Shall such home. stead be reduced to less Uian twenty acres nor one lot; regardless of value. Section 4. This act shall not apply decrees for the foreclosure of any mortgage properly executed; but if the owners of .sueh homestead be married, then, it shall be executed by husband and wife. Section 6. When any officer shall levy upon such homestead, the owner thereof. husband, wife, agent or attorney for such owner, may notify such officer that claims such premises as his homestead, de scribing the same by metes and bounds, lots or block, or legal subdivision of the United States; whereupon such officer shall notify the creditor of such Claim, and if such homestead shall exceed the mini niuii in this act, and he deem it of greater value than fifteen hundred dollars, then he may dicect the sheriff to select three disirj- teretaed householders of the county, who shall examine ' and appraise such home steal, 'under oath, commencing with the twenty acres or lot upon which the dwell ing is located, appraising such lot or twenty acres separately; and if the same exceed fifteen hundred dollars, then the sheriff shall self all in excess of fifteen hundred dollars by lots or smallest legal subdivision ordering them in the order directed by the fudgment debtor, if he chooses to direct otherwise he shall sell the same as afore- aid, so as to leave the homestead as com pact as possible. Section 6. In lieu of the proceedings aforesaid, the execution creditors nay at any time pay the execution debtor the sum of fifteen, hundred dollars and proceed to sell the homestead as he might heretofore have done, adding the said fifteen hund red dollars to his lein, but the money aforesaid shall be exempt from execution. Section 7. The homestead aforesaid shall be exempt from sate on any judicial process after the death of the peison en tilled thereto for the collection of any debts for which the same could not have been sold during the lifetime, but such homestead shall descend as if death did not exist. , . Huntington, Ind, May 29 Last night paaeem-by noticed smoke coming from a small dwelling at Boanoke, oc cupied by Christian Habogoz and wife. Tbedoois were all bolted and bad to be knocked in. Mrs Habogoz wan found In here bedroom with her throat cut from ear to ear. and the ted on fire. Habogoz was afterwards found in a garret, dead. Habogoz was 75 yean old and his wife 70. For the leatfew years she has been sick in bed, and '.the husband refused to let physician visit her, claiming she was getting on all right, and he could take care of her.
