George Walton, while engaged ln nfF- bearlng lumber at Jenntngs.s mill on Tuesday, received a terrific blow from a board which struck his thigh with such force that It Is a wonder his leg was not broken. The ladles of the Presbyterian church ' will give one of their excellent dinners at the Red Front store, on Saturday, May SO, 1891. Dinner from 12 to 7 o'clock. Strawberries and lee cream will also be ready. The "Greys" went over to Albany Saturday to contend with the Albany club for the second time. In the crowd were a number of sympathizers of both genders and last but not least our sport lug editor Mercurlus. A strawberry social will be given by the Epworth League, on the Academy grounds, Friday of this week, at the hour of 5 P. sc. All lovers of this delic ious fruit are invited to come out and have a good social time. - The Young People'B Society of the First Presbyterian church, will give a sociable at the residence of Mr. Monta gue, on Friday evening of this week. A short and interesting program is ar ranged. Everyone is Invited to attend. The bop louse has made its appear- ln some sections of the country. A railroad velocipede was pushed Into town Friday which showed some signs of being In a wreck. We learned from the conductor that the velocipede came in contact with a hand car on the O. Ry-, hurting three or four pas sengers Blightly. The old-fa-shioned Spanish bull fight was inaugurated in lebanon last Mon day, in which the belligerents were Ben Barker and Bos Taurus. The latter was victorious, lien was the recipi ent of a few headers that left him in a bruised and battered condition. . L. L. Buekner is clearing the land which he bought and which lies be tween the canal and the river. Some of these boys are altogether too small to carry firearms, and If parents do not look after them there are liable to lie some funerals resulting from such care lessness. There appears to he a class of tramp robbers infesting the Willamette Valley and operating In the city. I.ast night a gentleman was attacked while on his way to his stopping place in the eastern part of the city, and left insensible by the side of the walk. When he regalued his faculties his watch and money was massing. No clue has been gained of the perpetra tors. Herald. Let us eee that none of the graves are neglected, but on the contrary let us see that the cemetery shows that we have a proper regard for the departed. Rev.
