Hoffman, a contractor who has been getting out tie, for the Oregon Pacific, Is In the city, lie has Jut re turned from a trip to the summit of the Cascade mountains, where he says a party of twenty-five surveyor, claim ing to be employes of the W a bush 4 Pacific Rallroaa1 Company, are cnmetl and are attempting to hold the paas for "their company. Mr. Hoffman talked with the men and tbey said they woald have th road located tn a short time. The road, they aaid, would come to Albany, and th,eiee northwest to connect with the Astoria & Coast rail rvad at or near Tillamook. As the Oregon Paciflo Company's road la already located and several miles of track already built, it looks very much like a biff canard, although there have been some rumors afloat that the Union Pacitlc contemplates building aline through Eastern Ore gon and across the mountains to con nect with the Southern Paciltc at this city. That there is a party of surveyors of some road In tire field in the legality named there Is no doubt, and it ruisrht transpire that on some of these bright mornings "Albany will find another big line building into the city. Albany Herald. , - BIS Ml sing Maws. A few weeks ago Charles Barnwell, working on the Oregon Pacific railroad made one of the most important dis coveries of silvcr-lcaiS mine yet mail In the rSantiatn district. The vein is twenty feet wide n the surface, carries rich sulphurets and carbonate and is cut right through by the railroad. The mine is on the north fork of the fratitiam only fifteen miles above the Rock Creek poetofnee and accessible by railroad, as the track is within seven miles of the mine and a graded nuanber of miles beyond. Prof. Harnett, the mining expert, says he will risk his reputation, that in less than two years it will be the Conr d' Alene of Oregon He says, positively, Ccer d' Alene never showed such perfect surface ore as is found in the Wallowa and Kanti am districts. As all the silver-lead mine are known to improve, in depth, the ' gentleman's predictions seem likely to be fulfilled once more. Ore- gonian. LEBANON PRODUCE MARKET. bv C. B.
