The improve ment during that period in the towns of Scio and Crabtree as well as in the surrounding country is quite remarkable. In Scio more than one-half dozen new business houses have been erected, as well as a number of costly dwellings. Crab tree has. several new business houses and dwellings; Farmers in that locality have erected new dwellings and barns besides a large number of silos. The Scio country is rapidly becoming a dairy region. Almost every farmer operates a dairy herd of from half a dozen to twenty to thirty milk cows. The condensery .and cream stations furnish an ex cellent market. A project is now on foot by which farmers who wish, can secure money from the Cusick bank, in Albany, for the purpose of increasing and improving their herds. The milk condensery under the management of E. C. Peery and the superintendency of Mr. Boyd is meeting with splendid success. More than double the amount of milk now manufactured could be market ed and, because of lack of milk, the condensery is not worked to more than half capacity. Manager Peery expects the supply of milk to be greatly incraased, next year. This writer enjoyed two days visit at the Linn’ County Fair. Under the able management of President Prill, this fair has become one of the popular county fairs of the Willamette valley.
