John Roberts, of above Whit­

L. W. Anderson, who thought

It is announced that Banker E.
D. Cusick, of Albany, is a candidate
for the nomination of the Linn-Lane
joint state senator, subject to the
decision of republican voters.
James Riggs, of New Meadows,
Idaho, is visiting his brother-in-law,
H. F. Hamilton, of near Holley.
This office acknowledges a pleasant
call from them, Wednesday morn­

The safe in Biirkhart & Lee’s
drug store in Albany, was burglariz

A cavalry saber carried through
the Civil war by A. J. Rex, a resi­
dent of Scio for many years, has
been presented to McPhearson Post
G. A. R. of Albany. Mr. Rex con­
ducted a harness shop at Scio for
several years. His death occurred
some five years ago.
The railroads have been remark­
ably clever to Linn county in the
interest of good roads, in granting
a 25 cents per ton rate for 25 miles,
for hauling gravel and crushed rock.
A 1 cent per ton will be charged
for each additional mile added to
the haul.
C. F. Corgan of above Whitcomb,
was down Monday and filled out an
application to make comutation

fortunate that he selected ,a claim

The Lincoln Memorial
The clouds that have surrounded
the formulative processes of the
Lincoln monument have cleared
away. The contract made by the
commission, of which ex-President
Taft is the head, has b,een approved
by the Secretary of War, and what­
ever friction might arise over the
dispute of authority between the
Commission and the Secretary’s
office has been discounted in advance
by the appointment of a joint re­
presentative of both bodies. As a
result, the ground will be broken in
Washington on Lincoln’s birthday
for the greatest of all our national
memorials—for a building which
will in fact be a greater tribute
than even that of the Washington
monument. In short the Lincoln
memorial will be the greatest
structure evdr contemplated by the
American people, in honor of its
most illustrious martyr.
