H Mulchay. assistant freight traffic manager of the S. P. railway, after reading our editorial of June 26th about the removal of the agent at Crabtree, sends us the following letter which gives the facta leading to the withdrawal of an agency at Crabtree: "Recently my attention was di rected to an article appearing in your issue of June 26th. entitled ‘Our Neglect.’ subject being with- Jiawal of our agent at Crabtree. "Just as a matter of information, would say that during the year 1916 we carried into Crabtree station 349 tons of less than carload freight, while during the year 1923 we only hauled 147 tons. The outbound ship ments during 1916 amounted of 91 tons and in I92il 24 tons, or a grand total of in- and outbound meichan- disc of 440 ton» in 1916 and 171 ton« in 1923. Decrease of 269 tons. "During that period, we know that th«* busine»» of the merchants at Crabtree and vicinity has increas ed materially, yet the railroad com pany’s freight as well as passenger business has been rapidly declining.
