One School! One Language! Mill City. Ore . Oct 31. 1922. Editor Tribune: I am going to vote NO on that compulsory school bill and can give reasons I am in favor of the prev ent compulsory law. if the legis lature will amend it. The law should be amended requiring the private schools to establish common school departments in their colleges, plac ing the course of study and the ex amination of teachers under the supervision of the county superin tendents in counties in which there are private schools. To give a background to my ar gument. it is ne re asary for me to say that I was in the teaching work over 42 yearn 1 taught awhile in a normal school in another state, al so was county superintendent 9 vears in that state. 1 was president of a college 5 years; superintendent of Indian schools a few years, taught in common and high schools the rest of the time, ao I know of that which I write. My advanced education was acquired in a normal school and a Congregational college. If those who are opposed to private schools in Oregon teaching children will visit the same early and often. I am sure they will come away with at least a modified opinion. It would do our public school teachers a great wrong to say they do not lend a moral and cultured in fluence In their daily work.
