Editor Scio Tribune: The failure
of Hon. Walter M Pierce to fulfill
his promise to debate the «ingle tax
with J R Herman at Scio Aug 12,
which was a decided disappointment
to his many friend« and admirers in
this locality, now therefore. Mr. F.
E. Coulter, of Portia id. has kindly
consented to debate the income tax.
(Mr. Iherde’a pet remedy for the
tax situation) at Scio or any other
convenient place in Linn County,
Mr. Pierce to set the date and place
when and where he will deliate the
income tax It is assumed that Mr.
Pierce is no better than Abraham
Lincoln, who was willing to prove
to the people his fitness for publie
office in open debate. The people
want relief from this ever increas
ing tax burden, and we believe Mr.
Pierce will now have the courage of
his conviction to come and discuss
openly this theme to which he has
given much study and which the
people would like to hear.
We are writing Mr. Pierce asking
him if he will n«>l come and discus«
this measure upon which we are to
vote, for or again«t, in the Novem
ber election. We are sure his many
admirer« in this vicinity would be
gtad to hear thia discussion a« an
educational feature.

I am
denirou« of all the information I
can get in regard to your commuu-
ity. as I am planning to locate in or
near your location in the near fu
ture. According to th«* map I have.
Scio is located 12 miles from Al-
bany, 1« that correct? What kind
of a road is there from Scio lu Al-
bany? What kind and how much
of a crop is raised with your aver-
age «easin'« rainfall, al« > under ir
rigation? Have vou an irrigation
project for gardening and crop« in
general? At what season of the
year do you have coldest, or north
winds (I aak thia in regard to
poultry raising) and how long do
they last?
The Scio Tribune ««nt me a few
days ago. has no ads in regard to
mills, machine or blacksmith «hops,
etc. I would like the name« of the
blacksmiths who are in business in
Scio. Are there any mills of any
kind, or packing houses for produce
that helps to support your popula
tion? What i» the percent of tax*
ation for 12.000 aaseaaed valuation
at present?
I have 30 acres to dispose of hero
and will have $3.000 to invest.
Must go north for family’« health.
Thanking you I remain.

More than a million persona saw the
mammoth new circus of 1922 dur
ing the weeks that it exhibited in
Madison Square Garden. New York.
Now this marvelous exhibition is
touring the country aboard five
great railroad trains. It is a third
bigger than Ringling Brothers ami
and Barnum & Bailey show of last
season.
It is ten times larger than
any other circus now on tour.
Big as is this wonder circus of
1922- with its more than twenty
trained wild animal displays in steal
arenas, fully IGO schooled trick
horses, 700 men and women per
formers. 100 downs, and scores of
features the price of admission is
no more than before. And though
the trained animal numbers and the
immense horse show were circuses
in themselves while touring Eu
