Mr. Bartu n«> doubt will make a worthy sue- c< ' • • r to hi» predecessor, and the citv is indeed fortunate in his ac ceptance. There were also two vacancises on the council to t>e filled. To fill the u: x; red term of Roy V. Shelton wh<> resigned and moved to Salem, Frank Bartu was the unanimous choice of the council. To fill the seat made vacant by the death of Bert Hollis, the council selected E. C. Shelton. Both these gentlemen are too well known to need an in- tr duction. but to say that they are con i>etent men is strictly correct. ||l he council urges that all rewn dents on Main street, whose walks now need repair or replacing, first consult the city recorder and the ordinances. Mam street walks must be cement. One of the most important steps ever undertaken by the council by the way. it doesn’t cost the lavpayer a cent in taxes was the steps taken to organize a community club, this to include every phase of the entire community. After a thorough dis ci - on of the Iwnefils to be derived from such an organization, a motion prevailed which instructed the city recorder to write the Stale Chamber of Commerce for a speaker and or ganizer to come to Scio for the pur- p - of addressing the people of the community on the good such an or- gai.i/ntipn can do where there is everlasting team work.
