This obituary should have b-en written some week’s ago. but sick ness of the writer prevented. For nearly 49 years a true and faithful wife, comrade and helpmeet to this writer, we gladly yet sorrowfully write these lines as a last tribute by her lonely and grieving hu*t»and. OREGON. MARCH 17. 1921 A HUSBAND'S TRIBUTE A / /• / f; i - The late Georgiarna Dugger w«» b >rn in the small town of la Harp, Hancock county, Illinois, on October .30. I84fi. making her age at death. 74 year*. 3 months anti 4 days. When but a child of six years, her parent* crowd the plain* (I#52) to Oregon and built their home on a donation land claim. An Incident on the long journey acr<>M the plain* nearly proved fatal to the subject of this sketch When carn|»ed on the banks of Platte river her mother sent her to get some water from the river. The water was up to the grass growing on the banks Childlike she went dose to the water. The bank caved and ahe fell In The current was swift, but prompt action on th* part of a rela live, who drove one of the teams, in jumping into the river saved her from drowning. She gr*w to womanhood on the Crawford farm, obtaining her edu cation at the public school in the neighborhood and in Lebanon. In 1#63 she was married to Philip P. Henderon by whom she had two children, William J,, of Oakland. Cal., and George C.. deceased in 1894. In 1870 she made the long jour ney to Illinois, to take her husband, who was »lying with consumption, to his boyhood home, earing for him and her two little boya. without help other than that given by her fellow- passenger*. In the fall of 1871. she was mar ried to the writer, the editor of the Tri' me. We have had two children Bam W. and Mia. both of whom were well known in Scio, hut both of whom preceded their mother to the Great Beyond and their gravoa are in the family plot in Franklin Kutte ceme tery. Mr* Dugger was essentially a lome-builder.
