In the eastern half of Bavaria, *avs a writer in the Wide World Magnxinc, on the |*-rJer> of Bohe mia, Uta the *o called Bavarian for est. lu this part of Bavaria, owing to it» s«-clii»’<»n from the outer world, some very strange customs arc «till in vogue, strongly remind ing one of the miudlo ages. These boards, then, arc the »o called “death l>c»urda,” ami after the funeral thev are cut into a suitable shape and decorated with an inscription con taining the name of the deceased, hi« age and in most case* acme lines of i>oetry. These short poem«, which are, of course, meant in «olwr earnest, arc occasionally very amuaing.
