Among th<ase is to kindle a fire with kerosene oil, to walk on i railroad, to attempt to get on a moving train, to point a gun or revolver at another, to put his name on another man’s note to keep his savings in an old stocking under the btd. to play a game of chnnie with a prepos sessing stranger, to run foi office when he has a paying posi tion in private life, or to call a bigger man than himself a liar. On February 27 Albany will hold a general "Sales Day.” '1 hu is to be done for the pur pose of bringing the farmer and the mordant doser togethei along business lines, There will tie an auction of farm produee and stock, conducted without expense to the farmers, the Al- bany Commercial Club making all arrangements and a well known auctioneer donating his services. Local stores will stage special tales for that day. and if the scheme proves successful, it will become a legular event. L Letter from Dr White J. J lume«. W. F. Gill, . A Kilyca, JR Barn«*, C. A. Portland, February 12, ISIS Dr A G Prill. Scio Oregon, I Mar Dr Prill;-- I am returning herewith th* ordinance of the city of >cio In my opinion lh<- whole thing ■« not O|M-iative for the reason that the heath officer I» th* executive member of the board •nd in Father thi» inalance you have none no municipality, county or community could require anyone to wrve‘without pay. Then, with thi. in view I would •ay, (1) In case familic* are quarantin ed, it i* your duty to inform the county health officer. (2) The law say* that in families quarantied, food, provision* •nd medical attention mint be furni.h- ed by the city or county in which they live if unable to provide tor themselves. Li) In Hie absence of a city health officer, it i* the duty of a county health officer. (41 You are not requir ed to make a visit to families w.thout pay. If the county health officer is I called over from Albany, it would be absolutely with the county court what remuneration would t>e made for hi* expenses. This, i think, answers I he qu<*tions in your letter. The only Sane and sensible thing for a city the aise of yours to do, >• to pay a health oflker, say a salary of (lfd a y< ar, and be can earn that much in , cleaning up the sanitary conditions of the town. I think, however, physi I clans would do well to allow people to have a little experience and thoroughly acquaint themselves wihh these things through expertem e. Yours very turly, < ALVIN >. WHITE.
