REPUBLICAN rr< > 'Fl I Id COUNTY I ’ld< >1’1 Jd < >H CANDIDATES ijxx (’orx rv Never before io th<* historv• of Linn county Ims a to the voters than that named bv tin* Republican party ticket is composed of clean men (plalified for the office tor which tiie Direct Prim irv Election last FRANK H. PORTER, of Halsey, is the norr inee for State Senator for Linn County. In these days of extravagant legislative sessions and high taxes it is of the utmost importance that careful and conservative men should be sent to the Legislature men who will oppose all excessive appropriations and vote faithfully in the interests of the people. Frank Porter is no experiment: he was a member of the last Legislature and voted consistently against excessive appropriations and expensive legislation. Had the other coumies of the State sent men like Porter to the Legislature taxes would be much lower today. All that his friends ask is that bin record in the last Legislature be looked up and this .vill assure him an overwhelming vote at the coming election. A native Oregon ian. Frank Porter has lived all his life in L nn Cot nty. He has made a success of his own business, that of farming, and is one of the best known breeders of cattle in the State. A man who handle: his own business well can be entrusted with the business of the people, and based on this fact and his proven record, as an honest and capable legislator the people will make no mistake in sending him to the State Senate. Mr. Porter is not a politicirn and docs not have those qualities of making friends on first appearance with which some men arc gifted, but his rugged honesty has endeared him to those who lu ve become acquainted with him and the high est testimony to his integrity is that those who know him be.it arc those who like him best. E. D. CUSICK, one of Albany's most prominent business men, has been named Joint Senator for Linn and Lane Counties. A resident of Linn County practically all h. . lite, he has established a high standing throughout this section of the State as a successful business man. He is president of ti e bank of J. W. Cusick & Co., anti in various ways has been interested in the upbuilding of Linn County. Like Mr. Porter he it. opposed to extravagant appropriations in legislation and will use his best efforts as State Senator toward careful legislation. The Republican nominees for Representatives arc Charles Childs, of Brownsville; I). H. Pierce, of Harrisburg, and I lomer Speer, of Tangent. All of them are men of highest standing in the communitie:, in which they live. CHARLES CHILDS served in the last Legislature and like Mr. Porter, e* tabiished a splendid record. His consistent voting in the interest of the people at the last session certainly proves his fitne.-s to rcp.cscnt Linn County successfully. A native son of Oregon, he has devoted his life to farming jnd stock raising and is an active, successful young man. Two years ago he pledged him self to work in the interest of economy and a perusal of his record will show that he made good that pledge. Had a man acted with 'be majority in the last Legislature it would be no credit to his record, bu; Mr. Childs had the courage to vote “NO." In this cam paign he has announced again that he will oppose extravagant legislation, and his past record proves he will keep it. Furthermore, the experience he has had in that work renders him better fitted to work hardet than ever in the interests of the |>cople. D. II. PIERCE has been a resident of Linn County for many years and is one of the be .t known men in the southern part of the county. He has been a very successful farmer and his careful and conservative course during his active participation in public affairs prove that he would guard the interests of the people carefully in the Legislature. His well known integrity makes it certain that he would be faithful to the trust imposed by electing him i Representative. After serving as road supervisor of his road district for several years he is thoroughly advised ujxin the nrqxjrtant question of good roads and is a keen observer of public affairs generally. HOMER SPI ER is a merchant at Tangent, conducting a general merchandise store. He embarked in business for himself a few years ago at Mil City and later conducted a grocery store in Albany. Helsa hard-working, industrious young man and though forced to surmount unusual difficulties he has made good in his business. The same industry and good judgment which has characterized his business life would characterize his work in the State Legislature, and he would labor hard to serve with credit and honor to himself and the people who elected him. D. H. BODINE, the party nominee for Sheriff, needs no introduction to the voters of Linn County as he has now served his first term in that office. He has been a resident of Linn County all his life, is a graduate of the Oregon Agricultural College and is well qualified in every respect to fulfill the duties of his office. He has been active in the enforcement of the law without fear or favor and his friends assert he is entitled to the endorsement of a re-election. R. M. RUSSELL, nominee for County Clerk, is the present deputy in the Clerk's office anil is thoroughly qualified both by experience and ability to fill this important office successfully. The Clerk's office is a technical office which is in fact the clearing house for the county's business, and to fill this office successfully a man must be familiar with its duties and have the qualities of carefulness and industry in the highest degree. These qualifications Mr. Russell has anil his uniformly courteous treatment of the public as deputy clerk has won for him friends throughout the county which insures his election next Tuesday. The splendid vote which he received in the Primaries is evidence of the high esteem in which he is held by the people of this county where he ha . spent practically all of his life. Mr. Russell resided at Shelburn until he entered the clerk’s office as deputy four years ago. GRANT FROM AN. Linn County has had few if any better officials in its entire history than Grant Froman, Republican nom inee for re-election as County Recorder. His work has been so successful, and the service he has rendered to the public so satis factory that his re-election is practically assured. It has been demonstrated that when a man is giving satisfactory service and is thoroughly familiar with the duties of the office it is a mistake to change him when the office is of such a nature that it would require a new man to work a long time before he could render as satisfactory service to the people. Mr. Frotnan, who is a native son of Linn County and a member of one of the county’s best known families, seeks re-election solely upon his past record which is a splendid one indeed. W. W. FRANCIS. What has just been said in regard to the splendid record of Mr. Froman, as an official is true of W. W. Francis, known throughout the length and breadth of Linn County as “Billy" Francis. He has worked day and night to serve the people faithfully and now that the duty of tax collector has been charged to the Treasurer's office. Mr. Francis has, at great labor, developed a most successful system of tax collecting and the people generally realize that it would be a great mistake to lose his serv ices as County Treasurer. The friends of Mr. Francis need to advance no spc. nil argument for his re-election because his personal integrity and successful services arc so well known that it is generally conceded that he is entitled to re-election. J. D. IRVINE, the nominee for County Commissioner, is a resident of Brownsville and if for no other reason he should be chosen a member of the County Court tor the very good reason that the southern part of the County has had no representation on the County board for several years 3nd is certainly entitled to this recognition at this time. This section of the county is entitled to representation on the board especially when it presents a man of the known ability of Mr. Irvine, who is bto:id enough to look after the interests of the county as a whole. Mr. Irvine has been a successful business man and farmer and is a man of affairs well qualified to be entrusted with the many problems confronting the County Court at all times. He is careful and conservative in his business methods and yet progressive enough to sec that the county improvements keep abreast of the times and conditions. While he has never filled a county office, he has been honored by his fellow citizens of Brownsville by many positions of trust and honor and has filled them with credit. ALFRED L. CEDDES. the present County Surveyor, is the Republican nominee for re-election to that office. He is well qualified both by education and experience to do successful work. He has had years of experience in surveying in this county and is thcr ughly familiar with all parts of the county. This fact alone makes him too valuable a man in that position to lose. WM. FORTMILLER. Republican nominee for Coroner, is the present Coroner of Linn County and has filled the office most satisfactorily. Avoiding expensive inquests wherever possible, he ha* handled the office with economy and in the interests of the public, and this fact, together with his well known personal integrity and ability entitles him to re-election. This office pays prac tically no salary and the interest Mr. Fortmillcr has shown in keeping down the expense of the office to a minimum gives him a record which should certainly entitle him to re-election. Kcmemlier that your vote cast next Tuesday, November 3, for the above candidates, is a vote cast lor good men, tried and true, men who have made a success of life, on account of their well known ability and integrity and fitness to sei ve the people.
