high in price as this year, is the *ad

king of the vegetables, however, is
not the only exalted member of that

ries and pears have advanced and even
the lowly and odorous onion has risen

the crop of early potatoes wa* nipped
by an unexpected and unusual frost.
Immediately the demand for that veg­
etable for home consumption and the
export trade greatly exceeded the sup­

cessive heat ha* almost ruined the
crops in the truck-raising country in
the East. California will have to stand

fruits and vegetables. As the pick of

will soon be confronting the local mar­
ket*.
