Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Butcher, known in Scio, aged 78 years, died at the home of her son, Mr. Frank But« fi- I er, at the family residence, 803 East Yakima avenue, North Yakima, Novem- | ber 16, 1905. Mrs. Butcher was one of early pioneers of the west, having cros sed th«* plains in 1850, driving an ox team herself across the Rocky moun tains. She was born in Ohio and mar ried to James E. Butcher in that state on October 16, 1845, and in ’49 her hus band went to California in the excitc- over the gold discoveries, He liked the country and wrote to his wile to come out, which she did, takim. the overland route. Afterwards the family moved to Linn county, Ore., where Mrs. Butcher h. s lived since until the last four years which she has spent with her son in that city. The funeral services were conducted from the faniily residence, by Rev. Hay den, of the Presbyterian church, of which she had been a faithful member. Mrs. Butcher leaves seven children, Mrs. Lena Scott, Corvallis, Ore.; Mrs. Ed. Goins, Yakima City; Mrs. James Wright, North Yakima; Cortis Butcher Toppenish; T.iurston Butcher, Topj>en- ish; Horace Butcher, Arlington, Or«*., and Frank I utcher, North Yakima.
