Hedges, a rough character, well known in Scio, who when di inking was very abusive and quarrelsome, was shot and instantly killed by Bob Eidler, a logger at Detroit, last unday evening. H -ilges had obtained a good load of bug juice and c< mi ng into camp proceeded to make things lively by quarreling and fighting whomsoever his fancy dictated- The foreman attempted to quiet him; bet instead a tight resulted, the fore, man getting the worst of it. Hedges then went to the cook house and creatisi a disturbance with Mrs. Eidler, the cook and, it is said, struck her. About this time Mr. Eidler appeared and com manded Hedges to go away. This Hed ges said he would do, if Eijler would give him a chance. Eidler took the gun from his shoulder. He had no soon er done this when Hedges drew his re volver to shoot Eidler. Ediler proved the quicker and a ball crashing through Hedges’ braiu put a final quietus to the business. A coroners jury, later on, after exam* ¡nation, rendered a verdict of "Justifi able homicide," Everybody, wherever Hedges was known, feels rei eyed and say that he has only received what he deserved and what he has been looking for, for a long time.
