In the form of an article ‘‘Let's Tell
the Truth About the Coat of Bread."
The article «bows how although the
price of wheat as dropped from $1.3b
per bushel to 76 cents, yet the actual
drop In the cost of flour for each
loaf of bread Is only one cent. Expert
millers, the article states, can produce
one one-pound loaf of bread from
one pound of good milling wheat.
Prices of other commodities have
dropped very little and merchandising
costs have Increased, the writer con
tends, hence the price of bread can
be cut only one cent at the best
and still give the manufacturer bis
former percentage of profit.
A table of percent of total cost
of spedfleld Rems In a loaf of bread
was compiled and Is as follows: Flour,
26.7; other Ingredients 14.5; manu
facture 25.4; sale, distribution and
administration 33.4.
That the price of flour Is only a
minor element In the production cost
of bread is Illustrated In the article

of producing 100 pounds of bread.
The price of flour is set at $6.00 per
